And I'm downloading at the blazing speed of 10KB/sec, uploading at 30KB/sec or maybe it's the other way around. Too mad to tell. Bittorrent sucks :x

I'm hovering around 65KB/s download and 21KB/s up. The test torrent file from last week flew at around 200. In theory, I guess BitTorrent is cool, but in actual practice, it kinda sucks (I'm on cable). I have all the extra ports open to seed it, too. I guess everyone else is limiting their upload speed too much.
P.S. When you're done downloading, please leave bittorrent open for an hour or so, to seed it to other people, so we can get fast download speeds, as well. Thanks.

isnt there a setting to tell bittorent to not upload more than the download? there probably isnt any or else the main servers wont be allowing any download.

From my experince with Bittorrent, it starts off slow, but in time your bandwith will speed up.

ezroller, try this:
[patrick@localhost patrick]$ btdownloadcurses.py --max_upload_rate 10 mytorrent-pmpatrick.torrent
It doesn't help all that much but at least you'll be spared the indignity of uploading 3X what you download. Apparently, the upload sends a lot of packets back which eats up download bandwith considerably. My upload bandwith is limited to ~16KB/sec by my ISP so I fiddled around a bit and found 10KB/sec UPload max to be the sweet spot for reasonable uploads and greater than or equal to downloads. My download speed is bouncing around from 5 to 30KB/sec still sucks but not as much as before.

Make sure your not running a firewall that will cause Bit torrent to run much slower. Also try having alook at the bit torrent FAQ that Mandrake compiled some where on the club site (I'm not a member). That might have some tips to speed it up.

Okay, now I have to eat my words. Went out for about three hours and came back to find I'm downloading at 200KB/sec with 1.6GB already downloaded

Don't know when it happened but it must have really kicked into overdrive because I had less than 70MB downloaded after two hours when I left. Go figure. I'll leave it up overnight to help others.

I hear it is possible to have 9.2 final today by doing a net install. The 9.2 rpms are posted on the official mirrors. Or I hear you can install a minimum 9.2 rc2 system and urpmi the updates from the mirrors and get the same product.

It's not illegal, but what's the point in the members supporting MDK and not getting an added benefit.
So please, NO one post the torrent links.
Or I will have to be an

It is illegal to allow access to a product againts the will of the person who creates/supplies said product. Open Source != Free. Open Source merely means you can look at the source code for free, not that you get the binaries for free. You can be patient and wait a few weeks.

I too will wait 2 more weeks (or longer). That way I can see all the feedback from all the early adopters and see if it's worth taking a chance on this update or not.

e07fe7b1474eb3ba35cac3dfd479777e MandrakeLinux-9.2-18-Download-2.i586.iso
2b6ffc5957533c927f14197ec99a0372 MandrakeLinux-9.2-19-Download-3.i586.iso
They say you don't have to worry about md5sums with bittorrent but I'd appreciate someone else posting what they get for comparison.

That is correct, you don't have to worry about it. the entire time it's running through bittorent, it's running checks.
I've used bittorent on old MDK/RH/Fedora/Slackware and never once had a bad iso.
Download iso from ftp sites and that's up in the air.

I started downloading last evening at my lab and went over night. I have all three iso's now. Unfortunately, I had to rely on a winxp computer. I never could get BitTorrent to work on my Linux box. I should add that both computers are identical in all respects except for OS. For linux, I unistalled components, reinstalled, tried seveal versions, etc. Nothing. On winxp, I ran the install, and ran the program. It just worked. Don't get me wrong. I love linux. I use it exclusively at work surrounded by win boxes. And I'll be installing 9.2 this evening. BUT I really am not happy with Mandrake for posting this update in a form not easily accessable by a Club Member. (And before I get flamed, Yes I did read the man pages; yes I did read the faq; yes I did post my problems on the Mandrake Users Board)

well, they took the run option away from the right-click menu in KDE. wtf? this looks like libranet or something. It is esthetically pleasing, but it seems to fool proof for me. I am not impressed yet.

Oct 15 2003, 05:18 PM
When you say "they" could it mean that KDE took the "Run" option away when right-clicking on the desktop, and not Mandrake?
My KDE in Libranet allows me to right-click on the desktop and get the Run command, so I'm not exactly following your reasoning of associating this little problem with Libranet. Which version of Libranet do you have?
Like you, I prefer right-clicking the desktop to get to the run command; however for the time being there are two other options:
Right click on the Kicker panel,>Add>Applet>Application launcher--this will put the Run command right there on the panel.
Or, the old-fashioned way--by clicking on the "K" applications menu.
I hope you get your preferred way back! I haven't tried 9.2 yet, but will soon. Your comment though does make it sound that you are disappointed in Libranet (which I grant is not the eye-candy as MDK). I like both equally.
Cheers,
Richard L.
