i already have the game files via a wine install but i cant find the serious sam client files in a .tar.gz is there a way to get the installer to just install the client and skip copying the game data files? [/url]

You have to install the beta 1 installer first, then use the loki update from there. You can download the beta 1 installer from here. It works great with SS:TFE CD. It should install right off the CD with no problems.

my problem was that it was not working with my cd? click on the link i added im not sure if my copy of serious sam is the retail one that the installer was made for. It was one of those value ones it was like 14 bucks. I already have the datafiles thats why i was woundering if there was a .tar.gz that had all the files i needed or if there was a way to get the install to just install the files i need but skip copying the data files from the cd.

i have to export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom before the installer reads my cdrom dont know why dont need to do it with any other installers

dont know if that will help
MadHattr
what do i type to export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom

i just checked the console and found this?
mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist

im guessing it doesnt know where my cdrom is.
Ric
before typing sh ssam.... in the console try typing export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom or /mnt/wherever/your/cdrom/is then do your normal sh ssam.....

hope that helps,

Ric

Don't mind Madhattr. He's just being a pot-smoking lazy-ass.

I don't remember what it was that I helped you out with, and I never expected anyone to remember the exact date on which I helped them... It's... Scary.

Hey there. I really hate WineX now. I want NATIVE Linux games, so I don't
plan to do much work on my WineX tutorial.

However.... I would be interested if you could copy-paste me the output
(errors) so I could see if it's something I have encountered before.

I will find the WineX RPM for you now.

Lemme go look.

...

I clicked the link, and it started downloading the file, so it should work
for you. Use a download manager like NT or someting.

http://mdkxp.by-a.com/rpm/winex-cvs-200502-1.i586.rpm

You will probably also need a program to generate your ~/.wine/config file.
Here is my home site, and you can find winesetuptk.rpm in my list of RPMs:

Hope it works for you.

Yeah. Well, I've been considering closing the site. I have lost all motivation since Afrosheen's server moved and disappeared from the Net.

I do a lot of work on other sites now, such as LinuxHardware.org, LinuxGaming.net, and such. Plus I'm looking for a job.

The final nail in the coffin is icculus.org's server has disabled some part of PHP that I need... Well, and I don't use Mandrake anymore (which is fine, except...) and my wife's PC has died, which is what I would run Mandrake on to do my tutorials.

Well, I hope you can understand where I'm coming from... I don't have money to pay for hosting and a domain name, and I can't rely on free rides anymore. They just aren't reliable. My own server here has only got a DSL connection, and it's still capped right now, plus my connection isn't stable.

Anyhow, I do remember writing that to you now. smile.gif

Take care.

EDIT: yeah, I posted the final news item today. No sense prolonging it.
