There's to be an attempt to set a new Guiness World Record for the most software downloads in 24hrs.

For those of you who might be interested in helping FireFox3 reach its goal, see www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord.

Download Day starts on June 17th at 10:00 PDT, which is 17:00 GMT/UTC. Check this out for local times: tinyurl.com/4e7fv5.

Here's a short video about some of the new features of Firefox 3.

Am currently using it as it comes with Ubuntu 8.04 and it's nice so far. I like the way it deals with self-signed certificates so that you don't keep getting warning dialogs all the time. You can simply add them as being safe and then never get prompted again smile.gif

My download day starts at 3am on the 18th.

It'd be better if they ran it at a full day internationally...

I'll download it to my PDA in the morning over wifi.
AussieJohn
Thanks Iphitus for that info.
I've been searching for 3 days for such info but obviously looking in the wrong places. 2thumbsup.gif

I am hoping Bigpond carrys it but I don't if their downloads will be counted so I will download from Mozilla as well.

Cheers. John.

It looks like many have heeded the call, I can't even get on the site to download FireFox 3!!
ianw1974
Yup, the site is killed ohmy.gif

So much for breaking the record hey unsure.gif

Will keep trying, maybe I'll get through.
ianw1974
Well, I made it on, and it's still in beta, full release is last 2.x release. Weird.
SoulSe
I've been using Firefox 3 since beta 4. It's really looking good. Lightweight, snappy and the new databasing system is awesome. I'm eagerly awaiting file availability and then I'll join in the download fest!

Just built it from source using system Cairo libs... didn't get the binary.
Do I count? tongue.gif
ianw1974
If you got it from Mozilla's site, yeah smile.gif

I'm sure Ubuntu 8.04 will move from beta 3 to final release sometime soon in their apt package.

According to wiki.mozilla.org
The en-US site is already completed/passed.

However Firefox is unable to verify the identity of this site certificate, and whois shows No match for "AUTHSTAGE.MOZILLA.COM". I should also note that the other authstage.mozilla URL links on the wiki appear to have the same certificate.

That said, you can get it here: authstage.mozilla.com

If you trust it? tongue.gif

AussieJohn

John, if you don't want to use the pl version, they are all available here: /firefox/releases/3.0/linux-i686/
AussieJohn
Thanks Greg, I also got the one directly from the Mozilla site just in case.
I plan to keep them for friends who use may not be using the Fox at the moment.
I plan to wait for the Mandriva version which I expect will be in the not too distant future. biggrin.gif

Cheers. John.

It's currently in cooker/media/main/testing. So I'm guessing it will take 'some' time to get it pushed into the 2008.1 repos. smile.gif

I guess that's enough for a record. What was the old record?
iphitus
There was no old record, this is setting the record.

Have a look at that map though, it tells a very interesting story about technology adoption around the world.

Notice how blank africa is. And just for curiosity, North Korea had 0 when I last checked an hour ago.
ianw1974
Ubuntu 8.04 has already been updated with official version.

Not surprised about PNG... there's quite a few Australians there for various reasons as they're our neighbour.
