Hi,

Finally, after loads of trial I found what I needed, a good System info monitor. The webpage is there :

http://hardinfo.berlios.de/HomePage

and a simple

CODE
urpmi hardinfo

will put it on your distro. The GUI is just amazing and it includes a benchmarking utility. The benchmarking can be synchronized with the net and compares your machine with others.

I invite you to try it and why not compare our results, after all, we are nerds!

Good find - this is somewhat similar to a program called "Everest" which i use when diagnosing Windows machines - useful for identifying components and assisting in driver finding.
Google for 'Everest Home' - it's no longer supported but still available around and about, or drop me a PM.
