When you press the kicker button and bring up the menu, there is a bar to the left, usally
it says kde or what ever distro you have.Where would I find the config file for this so
that I can change the appearance or the name.
Thanks

Rightclick on the taskbar choose: panelmenu - configure panel then choose "menu's" and unmark "Show side pictures" and de leftbar in the startmenu is gone.
If you can change the text i don't know.

There is a .png file somewhere (cannot remember and I'm not at my Mandy system currently) for that side image. By gimping a new image to replace that old file, you can get new image that is better suited for your taste. If memory serves me right, the text was in the image and not separately configurable.

If anyone remembers where that file is, post back. I know I bumbed into it some time ago when configuring a new kicker image, but cannot remember where that was. I may also want to change that image.

I think that's the location I meant. Thanks neddie!

(A little bit embarrased as this would have been easy to find through search...)
