Hi!

Just downloaded Madriva 2008 spring beta1 but i can't install it. It boots up from the dvd, and as i select install mandriva... it shows me a "No CDROM device found" (it's funny because it just booted up from there biggrin.gif)message and bring a-lot-of drivers to select from. I tryed all the cd drivers(atapi, ide etc) but none of them works. I read to put in the command line noapci and ideprobe=0 but non of them works for me too. Please help. Btw i'm totaly new to this so please step-by-step. Thanks

Welcome mate to MUB.
Unfortunately you made an unwise choice for a newbie. You selected what is a pre release version, which is for debugging purposes and not general release. It may contain any number of bugs.
I would suggest trying Mandriva2007-Spring or 2008 Official.
If you have any problems getting your hands on either of these then let me know and and I will post you a copy free of charge.

Cheers. John.

Thanks for the help.
I found a 2008 release, but it's 700Mb so i don't know if it is the right version or not -the beta was 4g- but i'll try it anyway.
So thanks again smile.gif.

The CD release is 700MB and there can be LiveCD's or even the first, second, third, and so on disks for the set. Or you have to download the 4GB DVD for Mandriva 2008.

I also had the same problem with Fedora 8 on my laptop. It booted, and then said it couldn't access the CD-ROM for installing the media, and asked me if I wanted to do an install from the internet, ftp, http or whatever. I had another machine that had Linux on it already, and put the DVD on that machine and then did a network install from that mounting the DVD to an ftp server smile.gif

I'd download Mandriva 2008 and see, you might end up with the same problem or you might not. I'd suggest you download disk 1, and see what happens. 700MB is much easier and quicker to download than 4GB. Alternatively, try the LiveCD - Mandriva One 2008 and you can do an install from here as well. This might be your better option.
