You could use
CODE
kdesu kwrite /etc/ppp/peers/ueagle-atm
to edit the file.

KDE and Gnome are different desktops, but not different operating systems. If a driver is installed in Linux, it will work regardless of the desktop. Something else is wrong.
johnz
here are the errors, in each command kwrite opened up and i edited the files, it is Kubuntu so kdesudo was instead of kdesu

Initiate with root or clear the temp files. It seems that the same files are used but for some mystery the user ID is different for Gnome. Do you have more than one user? The same user can launch any desktop.
johnz
no, i just have the one user

sudo chown -R john /media/sda1

This command may give me access to the mount as root,

As far as i know the errors are saying that permission not granted, but yet the edited files remain edited and how they should be
johnz
I tried running as root

sudo passwd root

but got the same error, even when trying kdesu konqueror the same error comes up, i have not emptied the cache as i do not know how yet
johnz
It matters not, problem fixed biggrin.gif

In cases like this it would be really nice and fair to all who endeavored to help you to know what the solution was.
This is so that others can benefit from the knowledge as well. If you solved it yourself then congrats and that is fine. If suggestions helped or didn't help then that is OK too but please make it a two way deal by letting us know the solution.

Far too often we here at MUB get the message that "problem solved" but no mention of how. And when you seriously think about it, it is a little unfair.
Cheers. John.
