Full Version: Problem with optical drive Mandriva 2008.0

Mr B
Hi,

I have a problem with the cd/dvd drive on my recently installed Mandriva 2008.0

If I try to write data to it I get this message - "Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Unknown protocol ''."

First noticed it when I was trying to do a backup through Mandriva control centre - the backup fails with: - "Error: Does not appear to be recordable media!"

Drive shows up in Konquerer and will read data OK, but not write. Works OK with other distros and livecds etc

If I put a blank cd or dvd in the drive it asks what to do with it and recognises it as recordable media - but I am unable to use k3b or any other means of writing to it.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Matthew

Do you have things like dvd+rw-tools and cdrkit installed?
Mr B
Thanks for the reply scarecrow.

I have both installed - but not sure what to do with them....

If they are installed then you shouldn't have to do anything further with them. The applications that use those packages will know and will do what ever needs to be done to use them.

Clue:-.... Linux is not windows so things are not done the windows way. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Cheers. John.

By the way.......a warm welcome to you from all of us here at MUB. J.

Umm, do you try burning the disk via Konqueror?
This is not possible by default- it needs a third party kio module which has been abandoned ages ago (last version was present in Mandriva 2007 or so).
