Some how the fn button is stuck 'on' as it where on my acer travelmate. i don't know how it happened and I have no idea how to unstick it please please someone help. Its very hard to type with one finger holding down the fn button constantly

Is this a mechanical problem, is the button physically stuck? Or is your system acting as if it were stuck?

By the description it sounds like the system is reading the key position reversed i.e. on when it should be off and visa versa. I don't know the answer though.

my laptop is acting as if I were constantly pressing the fn button, my 18month old son was typing away when i wasn't looking, god knows how he did it! I've tried pressing every button to no avail

What operating system are you using?
What applications were open when the incident occurred?

This has happened to me before and a reboot solved the problem.

Yes. In windows, Acer retains the button press, but in Linux, it reverts back to the neutral state, at least my Acer does this.

What about the kde accessibility slow keys tool? Check in kde control center to see if it is turned on. Just a thought
