when i boot mandriva it boots to the console mode by default(black screen). when i was installing mandriva it showed some lib files were missing i skipped them. is the problem due to that???
mindwave
it could very well be.

when you get your cli are you prompted to login or is it straight to a cli?

have you tried STARTx?

He actually means "startx" (all lowercase) - commandline in Linux is case sensitive (unlike windows).
Missing files during installation most probably means that you had a bad burn handy.

If the install tells you that some lib files are missing and you ignore that, then certainly you are going to have severe problems.
If they were missing from your install disc then it means that you have a corrupted disc and it should no longer be used.
When you burn the iso to disc then select the slowest burn speed possible rather than select auto.
This is where most complaints of bad discs originates from.

Also when a boot up runs to a black screen at the end of the bootup it means that there is NO video driver active but that is likely also because of the missing files problems.

Burn another disc and try again. If you get a repeat of the problem then it is likely your iso is corrupted so you will need to download it again,

Cheers. John.
