How do you enable cheats in RTCW? I have tried starting it with +sv_cheats 1 and adding set sv_cheats 1 in a user.cfg - everything I have found on the internet, but nothing works

Any suggestions?

did the sites you went to only talk about the windows version? there's probably a different way to do it under linux, or maybe it's not possible, i don't know :-/. i was actually pondering this same question last night.

I think you're right. There's gotta be a way to cheat under linux! I lost my saved games when I upgraded to 9.1 and I don't want to have to play all the way back to same point again. So I figured I'd have a fragfest and get there quickly in god mode

Too bad Mandrake doesn't have something like apt-get dist-upgrade, so you don't ever lose anything and you only install it once...

But I guess if they did that, no one would want to buy the newer versions...

I'm not too bothered - I mut admit I thought it would be fun to play the first par t of the game in god mode - killing without fear.

The annoying thing is that when I do a search for it on google - ther seem to be mostly german sites with porn popups - there are only so many times I can tell my wife that I'm only looking for game cheats before she starts to disbelieve me...

i opened a terminal and type in:
guess the + goes in front of the set

then when in game hit the ` key (the one right beside the 1, the tilda key) and type in /god

reply:

looks like it works! (and yes, i tested it by going after some nazis and they didn't hurt me at all...)

Hmmm - I tried exactly this and it didn't work - sv_cheats was still = 0

Perhaps I did something wrong - I'll try it again and post my results tomorrow

I did this exactly again this morning and it didn't work - sv_cheats is still set to 0. Is it possible that punkbuster is affectign the single player game - or is it purely a mp thing?

I'd really like to get this working - especially as it seems possible and there isn't an obvious reason why it isn't working for me

i dunno, i never updated my version or got punkbuster, so maybe it has something to do with that :-/

i was using 1.3 (came on a cd i got from tuxgames). i just updated to 1.4 and the punkbuster stuff is installed.

all i can say is run it from a terminal exactly as i wrote it: wolfsp +set sv_cheats 1

works fine for me :-/

AAARRGGHH - how frustrating! I have upgraded from 1.4 to 1.4.1 and I have also entered

and it does not work for me. If I try to do it in the game using them I am told that sv_cheats is read only - why does it work for you but not for me?

maybe it's permissions on files?

I wondered about that - but I really don't know what files to adjust permissions for.

Edit: plus - did you ever actually adjust any of the files on your computer? Where did you install the game - I have it in /usr/local/games/wolfenstein - is this the same for you? If so it seems unlikely to be a file permissions thing

Solved it - I looked on the internet and, while deliberately avoiding porn, I noticed that some people where saying that this only worked for them if they laoded into a saved game. I tried it and I appear to be one of those people

I was searching for software once and when I went to the site, a advertisement pictue of a half-naked Asian girl displayed on the right side of the page. Just at this time, my girlfriend came up behind me (I think to give me a hug)... she saw the pic... left the room and slammed the door. :shock:

I took some convincing to get her to look at the site and show that I was there for legitimate purposes. :roll:

It does annoy me the way porn popups can appear at almost any time - what if a little kid was looknig for game cheats? My wife was looking for something on the internet and, for the first time, fell foul of porn popups - this helped my case dramatically
