This is my current desktop on my main PC. slightly dark but that is the mood I am in at the moment!

Yep, here's mine.

This is the standard Linux-tux from a tutorial. It's made by me, but the design is not mine...

This is my ancient HP Pavilion Celeron running Mandriva 2008 with the Enlightenment E17 desktop.

I am amazed at how well E17 works on such an old and basic (667MHz CPU) system. I have tried XFCE and Fluxbox but neither can compare to E17.

I'm new to this forum, and I'm confused. How do I upload an image? I click on Add Reply and see the 'Insert Image' button, but it asks for a URL. Do I have to upload an image to the web first in order to include it in a reply? I imagine that I'm missing something.

When writing a message look underneath the text box. There should be a section marked "Attachments". On the right you should be able to upload files to the board. Then with the "Manage Current Attachments" drop-down selection (just above that UPLOAD button) you should be able to add (or delete for that matter) your newly added images to the post.

My shiny new Fedora 8 install (well almost, technically it's "still rawhide")

Love the new slideshow background, sadly you can't appreciate that from one screenshot tongue.gif

Oh and yes, I have changed the habit of a lifetime and finally installed the 64-bit version, 2thumbsup.gif

Revier, what command did you use to get the info in the terminal?

My desktop for this month. Don't worry boys and girls, the compile of OpenOffice will be finished in about 4 hours wink.gif
dude67
Ian, what is that app that gives you the system & HDD info on the desktop? That looks cool - way better looking than any skin I've found for the GKrellM app.

And IIRC the desklet is called FTB, you can get it here if your distro doesn't package it (this is the only place I could find the source for this desklet).

Nope, not hardened:

going by this I'm just using 2007.0 default from installation. It's the only distro I could get installed on my laptop, because all of them were failing to boot with busybox problems (Ubuntu 7.04, Fedora 7 to name some). And none of the supposed solutions out there worked for my machine.

My machine boots from power on to being logged in, in just over a minute.
Reiver_Fluffi
You oughta remove the part of that script "Security features" as it refers to SELinux (this part doesn't actually pick a variable up, it just echo's some text.)

P.s. Fedora 8 is out today, might be worth a try wink.gif
ianw1974
Eeek, your right. Just removed those lines. I wondered why it was reporting that. Never looked at the script hard enough smile.gif

dude67, what them you using in Gnome? Love the dark look.
dude67
The shiny black metal/plastic looks very nice, don't you think! I especially like the menus (you cannot see them in this screenshot though).

The theme is called OrangeLinstaBlackPlastic. It's in Gnome-look.org. It goes very well with a dark or quite black background image.
ianw1974
It looks great. The only decent dark theme I had was PolyCarbonate Dark. But the newly one available doesn't give window borders, but was lucky I kept the old one. Gonna download this one you got now and check it out 2thumbsup.gif

Ain't this sharing your desktop stuff fun eh for new eyecandy.

Thanks, dude67, but I when I click on the reply button I see nothing that you mention. There is a text box which I am now in obviously, and below it are two buttons labeled 'Toggle Side Panel' and 'BB Code Help'. Below those buttons, there is a section called "Post Optioins" then further down is "Post Icons". There is nothing about Attachments anywhere.
dude67
OK, perhaps admins should answer that question then. In my browser it's a box between the 'Toggle Side Pane' and 'Post Options'. Perhaps something is disabled in your settings or you have some scripts blocked.

It is currently board policy that members can't upload files until they reach 10 posts. This is to counteract spamming activities.

Sorry. smile.gif
dude67
So, Sunwatcher: four more to go! 2thumbsup.gif Go "spam" the board.

I have recently 're-arranged' my partitions so was forced to re-install Mandriva. So I have taken the opportunity of installing a new desktop.

Look! Graphical setup of write to NTFS! The great secret of Mandriva! wink.gif

Will do then.

But there are number of free image hosting services on the internet. I'm just saying this, because I've already ran out of the quota we have here on MUB... cool.gif

(post a reply, and there's only 2 to go... tongue.gif )
- edit - Oh, just noticed: two more posts and I'm in my fourth centennial (in number of messages).

nope, changed background and themes then added the avant-window-navigator and screenlets.
ilia_kr
Are these screenlets compiz related or ordinary gdesklets?
ianw1974
The avant-window-navigator package requires compiz. At least I found this on Gentoo, but can't get compiz working yet. I think I have some weird xorg.conf problem. As for the desklets tyme has I'm presuming this is part of avant-window-navigator.
Reiver_Fluffi
I don't believe that the desklets are part of AVN, AVN is just the bar, or at least it was when I last used it.

An alternative to AVN is Kiba-dock which is worth a look wink.gif
