Have you tried searching the forum for "menu" ?
zibi1981
Same question here. In 2007.1 there were no "intrinsic" texts in the K-menu button, so simple swap did the trick. Now there is this terrible text

ilia_kr
Can you sharpen your question, i can't understand what text you would like to remove.
If it is the kicker button text (the "Menu" in lower left corner) take a look here, it worked for 2007.1 don't know what about 2008.
SilverSurfer60
If it is the word 'Menu' you want to get rid of then right click on the button and select one of the optional styles of button you want. One option is 'Switch to Mandriva Button' This will give you a white star on a light blue background.
zibi1981
But I like to keep my menu button as it is now, only without this awfully looking white text "Menu". In 2007.0/2007.1 when I replaced original images in /var/lib/mandriva/kde-profiles/free/share/icons/crystalsvg with ones I made myself, then there wasn't any white text on my menu button, and in 2008.0 there's one as you can see on the picture above. How to get rid of the text?

This is a nice new feature for 2008. However if you want the 'original' KDE button, like the one in the beautiful screenshot in this post here. smile.gif

You will have to add this section
CODE
[KMenu]
KMenuButtonScale=false
KmenuIcon=about_kde.png
to your ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
Then in a terminal do
CODE
dcop kicker kicker restart
to use the icon without restarting your Xserver.
zibi1981
And is there a possibility to only remove this text from my current button?
tyme
The text is part of the image that is being used. You would have to edit the image to remove the text.

I don't believe it is, I just looked.

@zibi1981- Try adding this section

Edit: dexter11 has found this to work with 2008
CODE
[KMenu]
ShowText=false
to your ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
Then do
CODE
dcop kicker kicker restart
to see if it works. Please let us know.

I have tried this. It does not remove the "Menu" text from the KMenu in Kicker if we are using the Kicker Menu Style. It works only when we use the KDE Menu Style. (right click on KMenu to switch between two different styles).

On a related note, I have noticed, that if I use the Kicker Menu Style, KMenu takes 6-8 seconds to bring up the menu after clicking the first time after startup. This issue does not exist if I am using the KDE Menu Style. Is this a known issue that can be fixed? Or should I open a new thread?

Please help.

Thanks.

Ahh, whom is in the 'we' group? In the 'me' group, I have proved it with my screenshot. tongue.gif

What version of Mandriva are you using, e.g., Free, One, or what? 'We' can fix this. smile.gif
dexter11
Looks like I'm in that group too because your solution didn't work here either. This is on Mandriva 2008 Free. Since the word menu is written in Hungarian (Menü) on my button so I think the text is not part of the picture.

edit:
I found it. You have to add
CODE
ShowText=false
to your kickerrc file under the [KMenu] section and text won't be there. The bad news is that the button remains the same size. So if you want the nice round button but only with the star in it you have to edit the icon. The question is which icon cause I can't find it. More precisely I found it under /var/lib but I can't find the original one.

Where to add this?

You don't have a section called [KMenu] yet so you have to add it.

I'm using the Kickoff Menu Style and I got the text removed, but the button still's big... I added the "KMenuButtonScale=false" and it doesn't work... Can anybody help please?

I'm using Mandriva One 2008.0.

Thanks
zibi1981
What do you mean by "the button is still big"? If you want to resize it, just click with your right mouse button on the kicker (panel) and choose configuration. You can see that there is a size section in which you can resize the whole kicker.

I know that, but I don't want to resize kicker, just the button!
After doing all that I said, the button has the same size than after the installation, but with no text, the only thing that worked after reading every single menu issue posts on this forum...

I evene tried to change the image, but it only changes KDE Button, not Mandriva Button... And KDE Button doesn't shows with Kickoff Menu Style, just KDE Menu Style. If I change to KDE Menu Button, the same Kickoff button shows up.

Sorry if my english isn't good.

Thanks
dexter11
Looks like the Kickoff menu takes the kmenu button image from a different place. You only have to find that place and change the image there. Anyway I use the KDE menu style and I managed to change the kmenu button like this.

Hi,

In kickoff configuration, one needs a file named named kmenu_basic.mng and place as described underneath in order to change the kmenu icon.

So all you need is an Icon of your choice (usually .png) rename it kmenu_basic.mng (Gimp) and then do :

cd /var/lib/mandriva/kde-profiles/powerpack/share/apps/kicker/pics/

mv /home/YOURHOME/Pictures/Tux/kmenu_basic.mng kmenu_basic.mng

then the usual dcop kicker kicker restart and you're done!

Stef

Pure luck, I found the answer on kde-look, and at least I know you won t send those dragons on me!

Have you tried this:

Write click on the menu button on the panel, then choose "Switch to default KDE button". This will give you the small "star" only and take a lot less room on your panel.

But then again, you may be talking about something totally different....I'm a non-techie.

If you try that in Kickoff Menu Mode the button doesn't change, only in KDE Menu Mode. The solution referred before worked.
