it seems this fits better here...
Im working at a Win2k and NTFS only office and I need to reblast (restore from image) a couple of workstations for deployment. The problem is that the main tech group is having difficulty creating a new norton ghost image of the updated workstation configuration. So i had these idea.
IDEA: boot the model pc using knoppix, create an image of the whole harddrive (and i mean the whole since repartitioning isnt allowed, dont ask me why), and write the partition to a shared folder in the network (actually my workstation). If im successful at that then i would just reverse the process to do the other workstations.
Questions:
1) Does partimage really work with creating an image of a NTFS drive? My knoppix is one version older than the current release.
2) If i need to update partimage to do this, how do i do this without downloading the new knoppix? im on dialup at home and i need to do this on monday.
3) Will i encounter problems writing to a shared folder which I hope to connect to using samba? How about reading it to do the blasting?
4) Any problem that i missed out?
ciao!
