I'm using Spring, and recently tried to do an update. After a successful urpmi.update -a, this is what I get:
CODE
# urpmi --auto-select --update
Some requested packages cannot be installed:
libarts1-devel-1.5.6-1.1mdv2007.1.i586 (due to unsatisfied devel(libesd))
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n) Y
The following package has to be removed for others to be upgraded:
libarts1-devel-1.5.6-1mdv2007.1.i586
(due to unsatisfied libarts1 == 30000001:1.5.6-1mdv2007.1)
libkdecore4-devel-3.5.6-11mdv2007.1.i586
(due to missing devel(libartsflow),
  due to missing devel(libartsflow_idl),
  due to missing devel(libkmedia2_idl),
  due to missing devel(libmcop),
  due to missing devel(libqtmcop),
  due to missing devel(libsoundserver_idl)) (y/N) N

What's going on? Should I fumble round trying different repository servers at random until I no longer get such errors, or should I just go ahead with the update and lose these packages? I can see they're only devels that it wants to delete but I'm surprised it doesn't give me alternatives, so i'm worried my repos are out of sync.

Do you have libesd installed?

either that, or wait a bit in case some dependency packages aren't in the repo yet.

Well, I waited a bit, and then tried again, and the messages about removing packages was still there, so I bit the bullet and went ahead. I was worried about a broken repository like that X.org story, but the updates to X were the good ones (*.0.9.2). Good news is that the machine still boots after the update, so I think it's alright. I guess I'll find out next time I try to compile something to do with kde.
