new xorg with updated unichrome added

There is actuallay 3 different version of unichrome implementations at the moment.

1. the one in xorg, currently not working
2, the one in http://sourceforge.net/projects/unichrome/ that is missing support for via xvmc harware acceleration
3, http://www.openchrome.org/ that supports both 3d and xvmc hardware support

I have built current xorg-x11-6.9-cvs20051127 rpms for mandriva 2006 with the openchrome version added.
I have also built the Mesa-6.4.1 that is included in xorg sourca and alse a dlms-drm built from the drm source included in xorg source.
This will provide the version of Mesa and drm that xorg is actually built against.

I have never understood why mandriva only provides an old version of Mesa = 5.
since both mesa and drm development moved to be part of xorg cvs years ago.
is it only natural to let xorg spec build both mesa and drm , like all other distros except
mandriva does.

my xorg also has radeon tv_output fix, sis 180905 driver from http://www.winischhofer.at/linuxsisvga.shtml and mgadriver 4.2.0 it does also contain fix for greek kb.
there is also an rpm for the The SiS Display Control Panel (sisctrl) for the sis driver.

The rpms is available in my repo at http://www.mde.djura.org/index2006.0.html

Well, it did not... :(

Do you know if it would help if I downgraded to xorg...-6, from my current xorg...-7? What's the difference between the two?

By the way, what is dkms-drm? In fact, my question is rather: what packages are expected to be installed when the xorg one is?

Thank you Thac,

Yves.

the things that is installed with xorg is xorg + new mesa
then you should also install latest dkms-drm that is the updated kernel drivers for new mesa

Another thing make sure that you have the mesa installed that i created by the -6 xorg version = -6 mesa
theYinYeti
OK Thanks, I'll try and downgrade this evening smile.gif

Is this Xorg-version also in the cooker-depositories, or only in the ones of SeerofSould? And if so, can I install this Xorg in combination with with cookr?

Thanks in advance.
thac
If you read the beginning of this thread you will see that my version of xorg
is not same as the one in cooker and also not like the one on sos
This xorg version i the only one with fully working 3d support.
It also has updated radeon tv out, latest sis, via openchrome and updated matrox drivers.
This version also has Mesa-6.4.1 = the current official version not the ancient Mesa-5.x used in Mandriva.
And it also needs the new dkms-drm installed to update the kernel 3d drivers.
It is available in http://www.mde.djura.org/index2006.0.html

Oke,
thanks very much for your info. I'm sorry bout the obvious question, I should read first.

thac
i just tested my latest xorg on a radeon 9600 pro
the r300 dri works
but the commersial ati cannot be installed it will conflict the ati GL will
be used instead of mesa GL.
and another strange thing when all is ok with r300 glxinfo shows a very low value
but it does work anyway with ok performance, so i dont thing glxinfo is accurate with r300.

i have also tested the r200 driver on a radeon 9200 it works ok glxinfo shows around 1400 FPS when i test on a old PIII 600.

...Udated Mesa-6.5.0 dkms-drm-2.0 and openchrome to 20060113 versions...

Thac,

Are all new versions going to require an update to dkms-drm?

The reason I ask is that when it installs it seems to clean the modules directory such that the ATI drivers will not install until you recompile the kernel modules. This is due to the deletion of /lib/modules/kernel-version/build/include/linux/version.h, which the ATI installer depends upon.

As I mentioned to Ze in another thread, this makes updating a much longer process, because not only do you have to recompile the kernel, but you also might then have to re-install extra un-related drivers (like the spca5xx driver for my webcam).

Also to note for ATI users, these last three updates (starting with the first (-23?) dkms-drm) have made it impossible to recompile the latest (8.20.8) version of the ATI driver anyway. 8.19.10 will compile and work, though.

8.20.8 generates the following now:

CODE
[Message] Kernel Module : Trying to install a precompiled kernel module.
[Message] Kernel Module : Precompiled kernel module version mismatched.
[Message] Kernel Module : Found kernel module build environment, generating kernel module now.
ATI module generator V 2.0

This is a basic question for Thac. I'd really like to use the DVI output of my G550 with the latest version of Mandriva and/or PCLinuxOS .92, but the latest drivers Matrox supply are only good up to Xorg 6.8.2.

Earlier in this thread you said
QUOTE

Does this mean the DVI output of a G550 (which needs Matroxhal - mga_hal_drv.o ) can be used with your version of Xorg in Mandrake 2006 and/or PCLinOS .92?
thac
This xorg is built with matroxhal

so the answer should be yes, but i have not been able to test this myself since i do not have a matrox card.

Thac,

Thanks for your answer. I don't have broadband so the download is large for me. But now I know it will be worthwhile, and if it works I don't have to think about changing my video card as I really prefer to use the DVI ouptut.

I'll post back once I have it installed.

Thanks.

Thank you Thac! I upgraded my Unichrome-based PC yesterday evening, and all is running well !
(except that ndiswrapper module cannot load anymore, but that's not your fault; I probably should upgrade the kernel as well).

Thac,

I don't have Mandrake 2006 installed yet, I'm still using Mandrake 10.1. But I do have the current PclinuxOs installed, so I installed your Xorg rpms for PclinuxOs hoping I could use the DVI output from my Matrox G550 video card.

I downloaded all the rpms from your "thac.exp" mirror, and before starting X just did a "rpm -Uvh *rpm" to upgrade to your version. I hope my method was correcxt. Unfortunately X fails to start, it simply dies part way through the process of loading modules etc.

Looks like I'm suck with only one usable head on my VGA/DVI card for version of Xorg after 6.8.2

This is the log, should it provide any clues as to what is happening:

Yes it does allow the DVI output to be used. But the DRI module will not load when the "matorxhal" is used as a version mismatch occurs. The error message is:

(EE) MGA(0): [dri] MGADRIScreenInit failed because of a version mismatch.[dri] libDRI version = 5.0.0 but version 4.0.x is needed

I don't know if this can be fixed, as the version of libDRI that the "matroxhal" is tied to may be fixed.

Regards,
Chris.

I've xorg-x11-6.9.1.cvs the original from 2006 powerpack youre's xorg-x11-6.9.0-35 that a lower version. How can i install it so i can use my openchrome driver instead of the vesa driver.
Is xorg-x11-6.9.0-35.mdk2006.0.mde.i586.rpm the right one, if not which one must i have.

The original from 2006 is xorg-x11-6.9-1.cvs the latest 2006 update is xorg-x11-6.9.0-5 and mde version is xorg-x11-6.9.0-35

so there is no problem updating sine both the original and the latest official 2006 update is the lower version.

Can you tell me what programms to install so that the S3 Unichrome Pro VGA Adapter can work with 3D
Is xorg-x11-6.9.0-35.mdk2006.0.mde.i586.rpm enough or is there more.

This is with my latest xorg + latest plf ati driver
abd about building dkms drivers that does not take place in the real kernel tree but in a copy of it.
one build tree for each driver

Which kernel version are you using? I'm running 2.6.12-15mdk. I can't get the 8.22 drivers, just released yesterday, to work either... though 8.19 still works fine.

I did some web searches, and found errors very similar to those found in my fglrx-install file. The errors were related to the 2.6.15 kernel, but I assume Mandriva could have backported the offending incompatibilities.
