HOkay,
I have MDK10, and I have no idea how to install UT2k4 demo, I apparently downloaded something from the ut website, when unzipped, its some run file. So, If u guyz could tell me from where to get the demo and how to properly install it, that would be cool/
kaio
HJ
that .run files you downloaded, do this as root...
chmod a+x file.run
./file.run

ofcourse, replace "file" with the filename
kaiocool
well did what you said, looked like it was going good, but when I type "ut2004demo" the splash comes up , and then disappeaars and nothing happens.
kaiocool
found an error:
something about now finding glx visual mode... HELP!
tyme
what video card do you have?
kaiocool
ati 9600pro
tyme
did you install the ati drivers (from their site) and do you have:
CODE
Load "glx"

in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file? (make sure it's not commented out w/a #)
kaiocool
I did not install from site, MDK 10 took care of that
kaiocool
glx is not commented out
kaiocool
I did download drivers from ATI when I was using 9.0, but it was scary setting it up, and messed with xwindow for some time. DO not want to go through that experience.
tyme
run "glxgears" from a terminal, post any results please smile.gif
kaiocool
Here ya go.. and thats really cool!
johnnyv
In a terminal window do:
glxinfo | grep rendering

If it is yes you have accelerated rendering if no you don't

From your previous post i would say you almost certainly don't.
kaiocool
you r rigght, what to do?
johnnyv
You have to do the scary download drivers thing wink.gif
I only use nvidia so someone else will have to help you out on this one im afraid.

tyme
where it says "restart x" the easiest way is to press ctrl+alt+backspace - make sure you've closed most programs before you do it though.
kaiocool
Ok through set up, I got here
CODE
[root@localhost Documents]# rpm -Uh --force fglrx-4.2.0-3.7.6.i386.rpm ########################################### [100%]
########################################### [100%]

[root@localhost Documents]#

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4475.html
kaiocool
ok, when I try to
CODE
./make.sh

in the directory it tells me, as su, i get permission denied....
UGH~!
tyme
do:
CODE
urpmi kernel-source

then try installing the rpm again
kaiocool
yeah i guess I have to do sometihng like that, becuase,. well I went to this site
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4484.html, and that sh command worked as su, but then I got an error message
kaiocool
ok, I got the source code stuff in it, and then redid the installing of the driver RPM, I think it rebuilt the kernel by itself
kaiocool
so I went through flgrxconfig, and then.. ut2004demo, and then... same problem.
kaiocool
I think the base route of the problem is this
CODE
Xlib:     extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
kaiocool
dude, am I screwed?
