Greetings all,
My first post here as a result of having just recently downloaded Mandrake 10.0 Community.
I have been a Linux user of various flavours for years, but have only just now reached the point where I would like to implement a home network that also has internet connectivity - something a great many users currently do.
It is my aim to initially setup a Linux Server with support for Internet Connection Sharing to several Windoze XP workstations on a dialup connection. I would then at a later date like to migrate the system to an ADSL Internet connection that will also host a WWW domain I am currently having hosted elsewhere.
My Server system has a Winmodem installed and configured for the dialup connection and an Ethernet Card installed for the LAN. I can successfully ping both the XP and server machines from each other but when I dialup to connect to the Internet (connects to ISP OK) I am unable to get out to it (ping a known IP address) from the Server and hence XP workstations; instead I get the message that the network is unreachable.
My question at this point in time is:
* What exactly do I need to configure on my Mandrake Server to get this up and working? Host files, Gateways, Routing, Domain(s), DNS services, Resolvers, System Services, etc ?
I'm not seeking to configure a major network here, just a bare bones server that will allow multiple machines to utilise the one net connection over a LAN to be stepped up later to serve my WWW domain via ADSL.
I'm sure this isn't rocket science guys, I'm just seeking to be told in a succint manner what I need to do.
Thanks a heap in advance.
Regards, Moose
