I wanted to know if kernel version 2.4.22 (MDK 9.2) was already patched for the ACPI capabilities. And what is a good frontend program to use those features.

I was trying to rebuild the kernel and found that there was no directory /usr/src/linux. There was just a RPM dirctory which I believe is for rpm packaging.

How do I go about rebuilding the kernel. In earlier versions, this directory was always there (I think), cause I never did face this problem. During installation I am quite sure that I did select the option to install the kernel sources.

thank y'all for the help

The first thing you need to do before you rebuild the kernel is download the kernel source. Mandrake didn't include the source with 9.2 (for reasons that I don't know)

Search http://rpmfind.net for kernel-source-2.4.22 and you will find what you are looking for. If you just want the source for the default 9.2 kernel, it is 2.4.22-10. I would suggest upgrading the kernel, though. If you have a contrib source added to urpmi, you can urpmi kernel-source and get the most recent Mandrake stable kernel source, I think it's 2.4.22-21. From there, you can rebuild the kernel to your liking.

As far as acpi, I believe it's there, but not enabled by default. You have to install acpi and acpid first. I've never had a problem with it in the vanilla kernel.
