Hi all!

Well, first of all, I'm a newbie. Mine is 9.2
I was trying to install kernel source so I could install nvidia driver. So I installed everything kernel i found on control center (add packages). Then when I restarted the pc linux don't mount any removable device and windows partitions (it says that the kernel do not support mount). I presuming that I installed an unnecessary kernel instead of kernel source.

How could I back to the normal kernel? (not that one 'marcelo')
Remember I cant use CD mount point under current kernel.

Should I reinstall entire mandrake 9.2?

Thanks

can you su to root in a terminal and post the result of

rpm -qa | grep kernel
and
uname -r

?

...and no reinstalling won't be necessary.

Well, the mouse stopped working @ mandrake under new kernel.
I was just trying to install kernel source but in my mistake I installed another kernel wall.gif
I just installed mandrake again...
I didn't find any kernel source option when I was reinstalling mandrake (even checking the option "choose individual packages".
now I'll try to install nvidia driver and my SBLive! sound card didn't work too using EMU10K1.

thanks for the help.

I seem to remember reading that the kernel source is not included on the 9.2 CDs

If this is the case, then you would need to download them from elsewhere anyway - installing all "kernel" packages from the CDs wouldn't help you at all - as you discovered!

thank you guys!
where from should I download the kernel? what version?
The kernel is the same for any distro?
Counterspy
From a suitable update mirror, download the 21-22 Kernel and the kernel source for the same version. Install the using rpm -ivh <kernelname>. Install the kernel source with rpm -Uvh <kernel-source>. You may be saved because the -ivh install puts the new kernel along side the old so you can test drive it before deleting the old one.

how do I know what kernel version is installed and running?
do you know a ftp / site where could I download kernel source?
iphitus
To find out what you are currently running, at the command line type 'uname -a' without quotes.

if you had followed instructions in my first post you wouldn't have had to ask wink.gif

Any mirror will do. Did you search the board for kernel? wink.gif
