naudefj
Hi, I'm unable to get sound from my newly acquired Asus m2npv-vm mobo with Mandrake 2007. I know the hardware is working, as I can play music with GeeXBox. I would appreciate some guidance. naudefj
I've just installed an old copy of Fedora Core 4 and get perfect sound (snd-hda-intel and ALSA 1.0.11rc2). So, this must be a problem with Mandriva's ALSA packages/ drivers. Where is the best place to report problems like this? Would it even be possible to log a bug with Mandriva? spinynorman
Where is the best place to report problems like this? Would it even be possible to log a bug with Mandriva? You should be able to report bugs to Bugzilla, but they seem to be having problems at the moment... I've emailed them as requested. :)
sjaglin
Hi! I ve got the same mobo on an asus barebone and the sound works fine on ALSA driver for the MP51 chipset [root@linux-box stephane]# cat /proc/asound/version Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.12 (Mon Aug 28 13:46:17 UTC 2006). [root@linux-box stephane]# lspcidrake -v | fgrep -i AUDIO snd-hda-intel : nVidia Corp.|MCP51 High Definition Audio (vendor:10de device:026c subv:1043 subd:81cb) [root@linux-box stephane]# grep sound-slot /etc/modprobe.conf alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel [root@linux-box stephane]# /sbin/lsmod | grep snd_hda_intel snd_hda_intel 15828 0 snd_hda_codec 164544 1 snd_hda_intel snd_pcm 70116 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec snd 46500 6 snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer snd_page_alloc 8712 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm [root@linux-box stephane]# /sbin/chkconfig --list sound sound 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off [root@linux-box stephane]# /sbin/chkconfig --list alsa alsa 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off 6:off [root@linux-box stephane]# aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: AD198x Analog [AD198x Analog] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: AD198x Digital [AD198x Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 [root@linux-box stephane]# So, I am not sure if that helps so far but there we are. I did the install from a DVD from a magazine and I am using the 32Bits version as the DVD did not want to install the 64 Bits. The only trouble I ve had so far is the lack of oss support for the sound which means that I get a crappy sound when playing quake. Let me know if you ve managed to make lm-sensors work because so far I haven't. I am so glad to find someone with the same mobo, I quite like it, it isn't my first barebone, I use to have an ideq, I chose asus because it was cheap but the results are ok. See you and good luck, keep the feed posted with any progress! Stef
