  1. I'm sure Adobe will release Flash player 9.0 for Linux a bout two months after they release Flash 10.0. Bastards.
  2. I have an old DAT Shuttle 10000 paralle/scsi tape drive that I am trying to configure to use with Mandrake 10.0. When I type "lsmod," the modules seem to be there. When I type "modinfo ppscsi", I get: license: GPL vermagic: 2.6.3-7mdk 586 depends: parport,scsi_mod,divdi3 I have the drive powered up. But, and forgive me for being a dunderhead, how do I access the drive? What device should this thing use? In the /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/kernel/drivers/scsi directory, I find the file epsa2.ko.gz, which is the correct driver. In /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi, there is epsa2.c, ppscsi.c and ppscsi.h. What am I missing and how can I use the drive? Thanks! Scott
  3. All, I've got a bunch of music on audio cassette and I'd like to record them onto my HD and them burn CDs and MP3s of them. A friend of mine said to plug in my cassette deck as the input in my sound card, start the cassette and record with Krec or your favorite recorder. Is it really htat simple? I would think that the .wav (or .mp3) files from this would be enormous. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for your responses. In my experience, JAVA is a slow pig. I don't have any experience with PHP, but I have looked at some of the tutorials on PHP.net and it doesn't look too terribly bad. Do you know of any IDEs that play nice with PHP? I know CoffeeCup HTML editor has some PHP stuff in it for websites, but is there a good IDE for creating UIs? Thanks again!!! Scott
  5. All, I want to build a web page that users can enter form data and schedule events or activities. I've already got the form data part going using PERL (CGI parsers, etc) and I think I can pull together a calendar. On the other side of this, I want to be able to generate reports and process the user-submitted information for other applications (the applications could be as simple as presenting the data in an HTML report, or a little more complex - interacting with Outlook and perhaps some other Winbloze apps). I will be using a MySQL database to store all of the data. To build this and make it all work together (Linux & Winbloze), would PHP be best? PERL? JAVA? I'm not a coder, but I can muddle my way through PERL. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks! Scott

    SBC/Yahoo DSL

I too had DirectTV Internet. It was reasonably good, and it was fairly easy to set up. Well, we all know what happened to DirectTV Internet ... I have a D-Link DI-704P broadband router, one box running Mandrake 9.0, another running Mandrake 8.2 and one other running WIN2K. The problem I'm having right now is that I cannot connect to the Internet through the PPPoE set-up at SBC Yahoo! Initially, I had to register with a Windows PC. When I used the SBC Yahoo configuration CD, it blew my Windows 98 install all to hell, so I ended up having to put WIN2K on it. Then, using EnterNet 300, I was able to start the registration process, but I could not connect. I called their tech. support dudes, and they could ping my PC, but apparently I didn't have the correct security encryption in Internet Exploder. So, I've been trying since to get my Mandrake 9.0 to work and I've been stopped every time. I found out that my router's firmware is too old to deal with SBC Yahoo's PPPoE protocol, so I need to upgrade the firmware. I will be doing that tonight. I hope it works. Otherwise, I may have to go with Covad, which is about 2x the price in my area. Cheers, DH
  7. Good news! I was finally able to get EZ CD Creator to burn CD1 properly. I've loaded up MDK 9.0 and so far so good! Cheers, Scott
  8. Just curious ... What about the fact that I tried "Create CD from Image" in EZ CD Creator? That did not work for CD1, but it did for CD2. :?: Cheers, Scott [/code]
  9. The first time I downloaded the CD1 ISO I ran the md5sum and it checked out OK. Would the ./ in front of the ISO name really make a difference? Does cdrecord care if the path is relative or absolute??? I'll try the command you've recommended, sans "./" and let you know what happens. Just one other check - you have dev=0.0.0, whereas I've been using dev=0,0,0. Cheers, Scott
  10. I hope that somebody here can help end the madness! OK, I downloaded the 3 9.0 CD ISO files and then I tried to burn the data that is in those ISOs to CD. After making a few new coasters, I looked around on the Web for an answer to my dilemma. I am having problems with CD1, specifically. By the way, I downloaded using Gtfp. Here's what I found and what I've tried: 1. Tried the "cdrecord" utility, using the following syntax: > cdrecord -v speed=6 dev=0,0,0 -data ./mandrake9_cd1_inst.iso When this finished, I mounted the cdrom and saw the following files: mandrake9_cd1_inst.iso README md5sum.90 This is not what I expected to see. I was hoping to see several files and directories. 2. I then tried using EasyCD Creator in Win2K. I created CD from ISO image. CD1 finished, I looked at the files, same damn thing! I went ahead and burned CD2 and it worked fine :o . I see several directories and files, as I had hoped. WTF? 3. Back in Linux, I mounted the ISO file of CD1 that I had downloaded: > mount -t iso9660 -o ro,loop=/dev/loop0 ./mandrake9_cd1_inst.iso /mnt/iso When the mount command finished, I CD'd to /mnt/iso, and guess what? Only three files: mandrake9_cd1_inst, README, md5sum.90. My questions are: Is the downloaded ISO file of CD1 messed up? I downloaded several CD1 ISO files, all from different mirror sites. Can they all be messed up? I doubt it. I haven't tried to burn CD3 yet, but I'm hoping it will work. I just don't understand why, even after mounting the ISO of CD1, I don't see all of the files and directories that I should on CD1. Any ideas? I didn't have this problem with Mandrake 8.2 ... Cheers, Scott
