  1. Not saying that it's the case for all Linux desktop users but I can certainly say that most Linux users I know only have a Windows partion to run games. As soon as Linux becomes a more viable mainstream gaming platform (although Cadeaga helps) they would probably dump their Windows partions completely.
  2. Back on the initial topic of this thread, I agree with this article 100%. LJ should be completely embarrassed, I'll certainly never take them seriously again. Byran Lee's comments were also extremely disappointing (feedback section). Personally I have never found console gaming much fun since my favorite games are RPG/RTS style which fit so much better on the PC as a gaming platform than on consoles. I've yet to find an RPG/RTS game on the PS2 that I've really enjoyed since virtually anytime RPGs hit the console market they are usually watered down 3D 1st person crap. Consoles are great for action or racing games but little else, though possibly that's more related to the market than the technology. Gamers drives the PC market... and unfortunately until vendors start making more Linux ports (or even better Linux only) games it will always struggle to provide a Windows alternative for the average PC user.
  3. a> No, not without botching :) b> No but you can install Gnome with Mandrake. c> Yes, as Pzatch said, MandrakeMove is based upon Mandrake 9.2 (though there is a v10 version in the mix), the difference between MandrakeMove and Mandrake is primarily the fact that Mandrake has more opions and flexibility and can be installed to your HDD whilst MandrakeMove is built purely to run from CD. d> Yes with Mandrake, no with MandrakeMove (unless you are using the paid-for version of MandrakeMove with USB-Key support which I believe does allow you to save your settings and install stuff).
  4. Jack, just a thought but if you are using a USB modem you may need to disable PNP on your BIOS settings to get it to work. I've had this problem with Mandrake hanging when its booting to KDE trying to initialize my USB modem and found that disabling the PNP in my BIOS settings helped this. I'm still learning linux myself and am far from an expert but if you give Mandrake a chance (and with a little help from some of the great experiences of forum members here) I'm sure you will soon be writing to Bill requesting a refund on your Winblows license fee. :)
  5. Was it really the game or did he just find out he really wasn't that keen on his wife once he'd married her?? j/k I know your point though, some of these games can be so addictive... I don't even want to think of all the hours I've lost playing Diablo, Warcraft and Championship Manager!! :D ... lucky for me (with the exception of CM) my wife usually plays the games with me so I don't get so much earache since I'm still spending time with her :P lol
  6. Thanks for the information on the SpeedTouch. You might want to try this if you are looking for a cheap but good quality router which works with linux: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...oduct_uid=48449 I believe it also includes a built-in firewall, however microfilters will have to be brought separately.
  7. Yes it's available but it's more of a different product than a good indication of Cadega. The CVS version is really not particularly good at all, standard Wine is better at running games than the CVS version of Cadega.
  8. Andeh, you are definately better off paying $5 and subscribing to Cedega (WineX). If you are intending to run the CVS version of Cedega you may as well just run Wine instead as Wine is much better than the CVS version of Cedega. If you want to play Windows games that use DirectX though you may as well subscribe, not only are you getting a MUCH better product, you are helping assure that future versions of Cedega are produced by supporting the community. Same reason you should join MandrakeClub if you use MDK as your operating system.
  9. Although I don't know why... I have to admit that I found this information really interesting. Thanks Lukas you answered all my questions regarding the change of name whether I knew I had any before your post or not!!
  10. RPG for me, though I'm more into action RPGs like Diablo than the D&D kind. The poll tells me I can't vote though so this post is my vote! :)
  11. The problem with WOW is the whole subscription thing. I'd probably be willing to pay $100 for the game and a lifetime subscription, but I personally do not support subscription based gaming on pricipal so I'm probably unlikely to buy WOW. It's a real shame since it looks like a great game that I'd love to play, it's just a shame it's subscription based. I'm all for as many native linux game ports as possible though so I'll probably sign the petition later anyways.
