  1. Yes the INSTALL.txt from Zope 2.10.4 says that it does not work with python 2.5. But I think I have found a solution, I havent tried yet, but there are this Universe Installer that installs a version of python just for this cause that doesent interfere with the systems python, and also install both Zope and Plone.
  2. Hello fellow mandriva users! I want to tryout the content management system called Plone in current version 3.0.1 To do that, I first have to install Zope in version 2.10.4 and to do that I have to have python 2.4.4. And I have a freshly installed mandriva server 2007.1 free edition with python 2.5.4, so how do I downgrade to 2.4.4? I heard someone mention lsb-python, but I cant find that with either urpmi --test lsb-python No package named lsb-python or with rpm-drake or with "Browse available software", searching for python only shows stuff for python 2.5.4 Should I install python 2.4.4 from source, or is there a lsb-python in some repositry I might not have? or Is the package name diffrent from what I have searched for? I do have some repositries installed, like main, contrib, updates and plf. I hope some of you have tip for me  Sincerly _Qwerty_
  3. I did a clean install, that worked fine! :D But before that I noticed that a lot of packages couldent be installed, and I realized it was the dvd-reader that dident read the freshly made dvd-r as it should, so I had to jump in my car and go buy a new dvd unit for my mandriva server. And I think the old one had done its work fine since it came with a Compaq computer with an Intel Pentium2-400 MHz, and I think that was about 8 years ago. It has been a lot of water under the bridge since I first started with that dvd-rom reader. This experience raised a question for me, I would want a software that could try and read the whole contents on a dvd-r or cd-r to make sure the reader is in good shape, and can read the disk without trouble. Is there such program? I had burned my mandriva 2007.1 free edition on one computer and installed it on another since the computer acting as my server dident have a dvd burner in it. I reacted on an error message during boot of mandriva 2007.1. It was saying something like "critial error with IPv6" but I read that is a known error if one have disabled IPv6, and that I have done. So know I am not worried about it anymore.
  4. Hello! I have been on Mandriva 2006.0 a little too long, since the updates have expired. I have done a backup of my personal stuff and of all configurations files in /etc. And so I plugged in the freshly burned 2007.1 and when I got a chance to choose between install and upgrade, I choosed upgrade for the first time ever. I started with mandrake back in version 7 or 8 I think, and have always done fresh installs and after them put quite a lot of work in getting the system back with all configuration stuff for diffrent services. At first it seemed possitive to do a upgrade now, I thought now I will have all those packages still there, just upgraded, no need to reinstall packages after packages and trying to remember what might have been forgotten. Usually it takes me about a week to get the server back to the way I want it. After the upgrade (where it said it updated around 1200 packages), I couldent "su". If I did a "su <enter>" I got "su: incorrect password" and that error message came up before I even got a chance to type in a password. I also tried to do a "sudo su" then I got to type in my password, but the password dident work. I could access root only by login as root at console without starting a GUI. Another thing was that my "mandriva control center" or "Configure Your Computer" failed with an errormsg of "Unknown error." When the updating was undergoing I sat and watched the screen and saw one error, a package called hal-info gave an "script error". Anyway now Im going to do a clean install of 2007.1, as I have read on this forum this 1,5 year upgrade (from 2006.0 to 2007.1) means to mutch have changed. It's always good to know were I can seek help and advice, this forum is great for that. Im confident it will work nice after doing a fresh install.
  5. Hello! I try to setup a dhcp server on my mdk 10.0 server. At first I tried "urpmi dhcpd" which have worked on some previous versions if I remember right. Now it said that I could choose between udhcpd and tcpdump, and I installed udhcpd (and later on I have installed tcpdump too, trying to troubleshoot) This is my network setup: Internet | Mdk 10.0 server (two nics and 192.168.5.1 on eth0, nat and ip masq is done with ipkungfu) | |---------- Windows ME client | |-----------My work laptop with win XP Right now I only have an crossover cable from the linux server to the two clients. But Im planning on buying an switch, and thats why I really whant to get the dhcp server running/working so i can just plug in my cat5 cable and then bootup any client and start interact with the Internet. I do have the windows me client connected to the internet, by telling it to use ip = 192.168.5.2 But my work laptop is set to get an ip automatically, since thats how it works at my work. I tried to setup the /etc/udhcpd.conf and it seems to be fine, but still it doesent work yet... # The start and end of the IP lease block start 192.168.5.2 #default: 192.168.0.20 end 192.168.5.254 #default: 192.168.0.254 # The interface that udhcpd will use interface eth0 #default: eth0 # The location of the leases file lease_file /var/lib/udhcpd/udhcpd.leases notify_file dumpleases # <--- usefull for debugging opt dns 192.168.5.1 option subnet 255.255.255.0 opt router 192.168.5.1 option domain local option lease 864000 The notify_file is empty I have noticed The udhcpd server is running as i checked like this: [root@qwerty qwerty]# service udhcpd status udhcpd (pid 18128) is running... And I also tried to look for request from the windows client with tcpdump and saw this: [root@qwerty etc]# tcpdump -c 30 tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes 21:31:19.863912 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-dgm > 169.254.255.255.netbios-dgm: NBT UDP PACKET(138) 21:31:20.447580 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:31:20.471101 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:31:20.471269 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:31:20.471435 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:31:20.471599 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:31:20.471769 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): RELEASE; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:32:00.045516 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:32:03.049887 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:32:11.052003 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:32:28.057692 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:33:00.068977 arp who-has 169.254.99.65 tell 169.254.99.65 21:33:00.706890 arp who-has 169.254.99.65 tell 169.254.99.65 21:33:01.708410 arp who-has 169.254.99.65 tell 169.254.99.65 21:33:02.790559 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:03.541252 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:04.292387 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:04.743743 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:33:05.043522 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:05.795121 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:06.545792 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:07.296932 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:08.048068 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:08.749242 IP 0.0.0.0.bootpc > 255.255.255.255.bootps: BOOTP/DHCP, Request from 00:0a:e4:4a:3d:e3, length: 300 21:33:09.020461 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:09.037875 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:09.392311 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:09.770666 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:09.780630 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): QUERY; REQUEST; BROADCAST 21:33:10.141241 IP 169.254.99.65.netbios-ns > 169.254.255.255.netbios-ns: NBT UDP PACKET(137): REGISTRATION; REQUEST; BROADCAST 30 packets captured 30 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel But I dont know what to make of it. 6. I have now installed Mandrake 10.0 and that way bumped mysql version up to 4.0.18 :) This software im trying to compile has a Makefile that the README says i should edit a few lines of, it looks like this: # User configurable MYSQL=/usr/local/bin/mysql MYSQL_LIBS=-L/usr/local/lib/mysql MYSQL_INCS=-I/usr/local/include/mysql MYSQLPP_INCS=-I/usr/include/mysql++ INSTALLDIR=$(RPM_BUILD_ROOT)/usr/local RPM_ROOT=/usr/src/redhat I found my mysql executable like this: [qwerty@qwerty discdb-0.4]$ whereis mysql mysql: /usr/bin/mysql but how do I find out any "MYSQL_INCS" or "MYSQL_LIBS"?
  7. The problem with postfix and that apache wasent accessible from the Internet is now solved. I was my silly mistake, I tried hard to find it, and got "blind" of my own error. In Ipkungfu I missed to remove an comment sign (#) before what tcp ports to open up. so thats good :)
  8. Hello! I have a computer I have been using as a server for quite a while now, It first run mdk 8.1 for a long time. Then mdk 9.0, and mdk 9.2. Now I thought i should try out mdk 10.0 to get some newer software versions, and because I was curious about the new version overall too. This server is a router/firewall/mailserver/webserver so without it I dont get my mail and my lady (who uses an windows computer who is on a little LAN behind this server) cant connect to the internet. I downloaded the three cds of mdk 10.0 official download edition, and did an md5sum check before burning. Backed up my /etc and /home directories from mdk 9.2 to a cd. The installation seemed to go well, amongs other packages I installed apache, postfix. The computer has the same hardware it has runned on erlier versions of mdk, among other stuff two NICs , eth0 uses driver 8139too realtek I think its called, eth1 tulip is an onboard one. anyway eth0 is connected to my LAN, and eth1 is to the Internet. To make the server share the connection with the LAN, I did as I have done on earlier versions of mdk, after install of mdk, I installed "ipkungfu" witch are an iptables script who lets a user specify only a few things to get internetconnectionsharing up and running ( what interface is internal and what is external and so on), very neat script indeed. and i did my updates, and after that I wanted to get my mail to come in so i started to configurate postfix. I was able to send mails out with postfix/pine, but i could not get mails in to my system from other domains. I tried and I tried, changed something and did a "postfix reload" or "service postfix stop/start" I tried to ask for help on IRC and wanted to show a nice helping guy this errormessage: Return-Path: <> Received: from as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se [194.237.36.146] by as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se [194.237.36.146] with RAW (MDaemon.PRO.v6.0.7.R) for <patrik@holmsund.org>; Sat, 07 Aug 2004 19:49:10 +0200 Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2004 19:49:10 +0200 From: MDaemon@as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se Reply-To: BadMsgQ@as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se Precedence: bulk X-MDSend-Notifications-To: [trash] Subject: Permanent Delivery Failure To: patrik@holmsund.org X-MDaemon-Deliver-To: patrik@holmsund.org Message-ID: <MDAEMON0011200408071949.AA4910256@as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Actual-From: MDaemon@as1-1-1.hsnd.um.bonet.se X-Return-Path: <> Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="0807-1949-10-PART-BREAK" Status: R X-Status: N X-KMail-EncryptionState: X-KMail-SignatureState: X-KMail-MDN-Sent: The attached message had PERMANENT fatal delivery errors! I then started to think postfix was perhaps not the issue but it was a firewall issue. Since above it says "waiting for socket connection... & the connection timed out" I ran the command "ipkungfu -d" as root, whitch makes iptables allow all traffic, and voila I emediatlly got two of the many e-mails i had tried to send to qwerty@qwerty.is-a-geek.org from another domain (as in the sample shown above). But then what was wrong with the firewall I thought... When i rebooted I saw this at boot time: Bringing up interface eth0 FAILED Bringing up interface eth1 FAILED I and when i looked at dmesg i also saw this: eth0 link down eth1: no IPv6 routes present eth0: no IPv6 routes present also sometimes when i as root does an ifconfig it shows me an IPv6 address for both my NICs, while in "mandrake control center" under network connetions, it shows me the right setttings that i want to have, That is eth0 should have IP:192.168.5.1 eth1 should get it's IPv4 from my ISPs dhcp server. I have tried to be clear, but it isent easy. My guess is that something needs to be done about the networking, and when networking is working then the firewall might work better, and then I should be able to recieve my e-mail with postfix/pine, and can go on to configure the rest of the services on this computer :) But I dont know what to try next, how to get further on... Any ideas what i should/could do is appreciated :D and thanks for a great forum.
  9. Hello! I have an Mandrake 9.2 computer with MySQL 4.0.15 running. I found a neat software on sourceforge called discdb that have a makefile that i need to edit, I need to enter the path to the libs for mysql for instance. And also for any mysql incs Someone told me I should use "mysql_config --libs" to find out where they are, but i dont have any file called "mysql_config" and I have searched my computer and i cant find any config file for Mysqld. people have suggested there should be an mysql config file either in /etc/my.cnf or /var/lib/mysql/my.cnf but i have neither, in fact i have searched the whole filesystem without finding any file. perhaps i should remove the mysql mandrake have given me, and install a newer version from source that will have things in known places. 4.0.15 is rather old.
  10. I solved it like this: as root i did: echo "ip_conntrack_ftp" >> /etc/modules that did the trick i hope, i havent rebooted since that, cause i dont wanna reboot this server for no reason other then to test, i like to have high uptimes if i can :) thanks for the feedback i appreciate it :)
  11. Hello people! I use mdk 9.0 and iptables, and i wanna load the module ip_conntrack_ftp and let users connect with passive mode to my ftpd. I can load the module with "modprobe ip_conntrack_ftp" but how do i make it stick in kernel after a reboot, i suspect it involves a line of "alias somename ip_conntrack_ftp" inside /etc/modules.conf but i aint sure, and i dont know how that line should look like? best regards ;)
  12. Hello! I have made a tarball of about 200 MB, and inside that is the directory /home/user/public_html/gallery/ and the files and subdirectorys that gallery contains. Now i need to replace the local files of my ~/public_html/gallery/* files, how would i do that if the backup tarball is in /mnt/cdrom/backup.tar.gz ?? I have tried to read the manual page for "tar", and i have looked through two diffrent howtos, and from them i have guessed it should be something like this cd /mnt/cdrom tar xzvf backup.tar.gz /home/user/public_html/gallery/* -C ~/public_html/gallery/ but that causes lots of lines stating home/user/public_html/gallery/UPGRADING tar: home/user/public_html/gallery/UPGRADING: Cannot open: No such file or directory and so forth for diffrent files... any tips would be appreciated :)

  14. I tried and tried with no success, but as a last resort before i was about to return the TFT monitor i tried with the newer agp card i had in my other computer, an Geforce2 GTS 32 MB card and then it worked at once. so it seems that the new monitor dident liked my old ATI rage pro 8 MB card. I am happy that i got the monitor working at last :D
  15. Hello! I have used mandrake for about one or two years, and now i have bought a new TFT monitor an LG Flatron lcd 782LS 17", and before i have used my Compaq MV700 17" crt. My first try was to just switch cables to the new monitor from within KDE, then i got an message on the new monitor "input signal out of range" I started to read the manual for the new monitor and noted the vertical and horizontal frequensis that it may use. Then i tried do a cold boot with the new monitor connected, and it worked fine in text mode, but when i write "startx" on the commandline to start X-windows, then the monitor gets all black! I tried to hit ctrl-alt-F2 to get a console, and then i tried diffrent settings in XFdrake, ie "generic flat monitor", "generic 1280x1024" and "custom", in custom i used the refresh rates the new TFT monitor is rated to handle, but none of the diffrent settings i tried made the new monitor work for me? Any help is greatly appreciated! btw i am using mdk 9.0 and kde
