Got myself a Mandrake 10 set as a server and will be placed in a remote closet to serv for files and such... Networking not a problem... I can get around that guy... BUT! Me not wanna run to closet everyday to work on it... I need to get VNC to run at STARTUP! I noticed mandrake 10 came with rbfdrake & Tight VNC... How can I get either to run at startup... with password so I do not have to run to the machine everyday? I tried x11vnc and it works, but I cannot figure out where to put that in startup either... Help Linux-Boys!

Got a mandrake machine that will be behind a closed door and need to connect to it through VNC... So, I need to get RFBDRAKE to startup automaticaly and add the password... Can it be done?

I have a laptop (TOSHIBA) with a CS4291 sound card (Cirrus Logic)... Doesn't seem to work in Mandrake 10 Download edition... The OS recognizes it as what it is, but no sound... How do I start the sound and or configure it? the OS (In the Mandrake/Linux Control Center under HARDWARE) shows it as: Crystal CS4281 PCI Audio Where can I go to check and see if it working or not? When I run TOTEM Media PLayer, it says wait... never mind... it freakin works... what the hell... I am the freakin man... damn

Two things I have file sharing working fine... I can see my Mandrake Machine on my Windows Network... Just type \\ok-linux\SHARE_USER and it comes up and I can see the files. Works, but I cannot seem to configure Write access for that share from the WINDOWS Machine. On teh Linux machine I have full writes to teh folder for Owner, Group, & Other... what can I do to get write Access? Secondly, I have my windows shares mounted via the Mandrake control panel and they mounted with no problem... SO, when I goto the /mnt directory it si empty and at the bottom of the window it says "STALLED" what does that mean? Last and dumbest... I see how I can change the background of a window, how can I change the background of all my windows across the board?

I got it figured out... We were overcomplicating the problem... The DVD players on Mandrake are not setup to play Regionally encoded DVDs... only homemade ones... You need an RPM package to add to your OS... It is libdvdcss2.rpm... Get it here: LIBDVDCSS2 The above link is an installer, so let it install on your linux OS... RESTART, then try your DVDs again... OK, Loving Mandrake, have tweaked all the Problems out. Except one: DVD playback is ridiculous Man10 Official came with Totem Movie Player... Works fine with AVI, MPG, etc... DVD's, shows the FBI warning, then "ERROR READING NAV PACKET" Check your permissions... I added MPlayer, same thing I added Xine, same thing! I tried all three as root, same thing! What the hell Mandrake?? [edit by spinynorman to remove excessive capital letters - we're not DEAF! :) ]

Anyone get Totem to work on DVDs? I cannot, so I added Mplayer (Using Mandrake CD4) and it runs fine, but it still will not DVDs... just sits there...

That other thread was about me... I have a Dell Inspiron 3800 with Mandrake 10 and teh OCMCIA service hangs on boot... works on the initial install then NOTHING... Put the "modprobe yenta_socket" then this line "services pcmcia restart" on startup and iot should fix it.

WHOOOOOH I appreciate the Help... I somewhat makes sense... I am not that savy with Linux as of yet... I work as an NT supporter (Don't laugh) I can try this step by step... Thanks for your help... What does "MAKE a SIMLINK" Mean? Also, Where is this located? in the same files (rc.3 etc...)?

Live CD's Stink... Recovering Data, yes they are fine... What I am looking for is an OS for my laptop... I think I know the problem now though... When You go to PCMCIA in the KDE menu I get this: "No PCMCIA Controller detected Version 1.4" Then a "CLOSE" button... That is my problem, because I did get the Linksys Wireless work after I resetup the laptop, then minute I reboot, then the PCMCIA Controller is gone... No if I type "$ modprobe yenta_socket" and then "$ service pcmcia restart" I can resetup the network card again, but when I reboot, then NO PCMCIA... Wireless was NEVER the problem... Can you guys help me with this? Is thee a way to execute those commands on startup?

So what you are saying is that Mandrake doesn't do wireless? It has a section for WIFI and everything...

Ok here is my deal... I want a Linux OS on my laptop. I have used the Following: Slackware 9.1 LinSpire 4.5 Debian Libranet Mandrake 10 Official Redhat 9 Now I am on Redhat 9... So far I like Redhat 9 except for its lack of support... I like Mandrake 10 JUST AS MUCH IF NOT MORE, but I cannot get the wireless to work on that OS. If I could get the wireless to work, then I would be an avid mandrake user. I have tried many message boards and help sites with no info. I even started my own Technology Help Message Board: Axis-PC Forum Anyway no info... Here is what I have... Dell Inspiron 3800 w/ 20GN HD 256 RAM... DVD/CD-RW Combo 600 Mhz Celeron Processor... I have: D-Link DWL-650 Wireless PCMCIA (Mandrake's site said it WAS compatible) Linksys WPC11 v.3 Wireless PCMCIA (WOrks at first, but once rebooted, it is lost for ever) Microsoft MN-520 Wireless PCMCIA iBlitzz PCMCIA Wireless I also have a Microsoft USB MN-510 Wireless Any of those compatible... My best bet is the Linksys, I have gotten it to work, then when I reboot the laptop, during bootup it says that eth0 was removed, do you want to reconfigure? I say yes, and the Linksys card doesn't show up anymore... (It originally showed up as a Tekram AIR.port, is that right?) [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
