  1. It will work but i think it is not a good idea to install something in your home directory. I installed JMF and the Java MP3 plugin yesterday in /usr/java, where also the Java Runtime Environment is installed. It works just the same but it is more safe. To set the environment variables i created a file jmf.sh and placed it in directory /etc/profile.d. The commands i put in this fale are: export JMFHOME=/usr/java/JMF-2.1.1e export CLASSPATH=$JMFHOME/lib/jmf.jar:.:${CLASSPATH} export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$JMFHOME/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH} In this way JMF is also available to ALL users on the PC. 2. Look here for Java Installation Instructions. It also explains how to enable and configure the plugin. Regards, Luc

    KDE 3.5.1

I upgraded today from kde-3.4.2 to kde-3.5.1 using the SOS packages. I followed the instructions on their web site. I first removed 3.4.2 then installed 3.5.1. In addition tho the SOS instructions i saved the list of 3.4.2 packages and used it to install packages missed (not mentioned) in the SOS instructions. Of cource it all depensds on what you have installed. Be sure to install kdebase-kdm!!!. Anyway this kde-3.5.1 works like a charm. Regards & good luck, Luc
  4. Right click the icon, select Properties, select tab Application: In KDE 3.4 the field "command" should read: konqueror --profile devices device:/ In KDE 3.5 the field "command" should read: konqueror --profile devices media:/
  5. This should work. urpmi.addmedia [options] <name> file://<path> [with <relative path to synthesis|hdlist>] You can find this info in the manpage of urpmi.addmedia.
  6. Do you have HPLIP installed (e.g. hplip-0.9.5-1.1.20060mdk) From version 0.9.5 hp-psc-1400 series is supported. See: http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/hplip_readme.html#Device
  7. I recently connected a HP PSC 2355 all-in-one device to my desctop pc, then running Mandriva 2005le. I connected the PSC 2355 and then went to MCC->Peripherals->Printers. The printer was detected automatically and all software, including scanning software (Kooka), was installed automatically. There is even a "hp printer Toolbox" program in Start-System-Observation. The only part i installed manually is OCRAD (Optical Character Recognition). For scanning i now use XSane. Did you try installing/re-installing printer/scanner in MCC? Regards, Luc
  8. I think the information given by easy-urpmi for the SMART settup is not correct. For the hdlurl= parameter one must give the complete URL. not: hdlurl=media_info/hdlist.cz but: hdlurl=ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/mandrake/official/updates/2006.0/main_updates/media_info/hdlist.cz Regards, Luc
  9. For the hdlist one must also specify the FULL URL path: not: hdlurl=media_info/hdlist.cz But: hdlurl=ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distribut..._info/hdlist.cz Apparently this is different for every package manager. Regards, Luc
  10. I have just today installed Mandriva 2006.0. My graphic card (Radeon 9200SE/T) was automatically detected and installed without any intervention of my part. The same situation as in mdv LE2005. glxinfo results: glxgears results: Some time ago, in MDV-LE2005, i installed latest the ATI driver . The instalation was easy, but it did not improve things at all so i removed it again. I am quite happy with Mandrivas default instalation. Regards, Luc

    Wireless Mouse?

How are things? Any progress? If not here is an other explanation which might be of use to you: Configuration for a 7 Button (USB) Mouse Regards, Luc

    Wireless Mouse?

You definitely have a 7-function mouse. What did you enter now for Option "ZAxisMapping" ? To activate side scrolling try: Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" The first two numbers "4 5" are for vertical scrolling, the last two "6 7" for horizontal. Just apply the button numbers that are right for you. Success.

    Wireless Mouse?

Try the following: Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Buttons" "6" Option "ZAxisMapping" "5 6" EndSection The Option "Buttons" "6" will tell XOrg there are 6 buttons. The Option "ZAxisMapping" "5 6" will tell XOrg to see buttons 5+6 as the scroll wheel. xmodmap -pp shoul now give the following: There are 6 pointer buttons defined. Physical Button Button Code 1 1 2 2 3 3 4 5 5 6 6 4

    Wireless Mouse?

Hi, I have a Logitech MX700 cordless optical mouse and i am running Mandriva 2005LE. My xorg.conf contains following settings: If it does not work when you chage your xorg.conf to this settings (and restart X) then you could try to reconfigure the mouse with MCC. Make sure to choose PS2 -> Other -> Microsoft Explorer. Good luck, Luc
  15. The AMD (athlon) used to be more performant than the INTEL (Celeron). However today the INTEL "Celeron-D" outperforms the AMD "Sempron". ref: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/print/sempron.html So i would go for offer one.
