  1. I got about 6 months using GNU/Linux and your message was very useful for me. I decided to install the SOS version you mentioned with urpmi. I spent a few hours trying to install bluefish yesterday, and with urpmi it just took about 1 minute. Thanks both Crashdamage and anna! Regards.
  2. Hello, everybody. I'm using Mandrake v10.1 and RPM v4.2.2, and I need to install the latest Bluefish version, but I cannot do it neither using the RPM file nor the source. Bluefish requieres gtk version 2.0 or higher, libpcre 3.0 or higher and (optional) libaspell 0.50 or higher, and I do have them. This is what happens when I try to install it from the source: I run ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/bluefish, and I got the next error message: "configure: error: libgtk2.0-dev missing please install libgtk2.0-dev". I search for libgtk2.0-dev in google but I can only find a Debian Package, so I must convert it into a RPM file and the one program I know to do this is Alien. Alien was successfully installed, but when I run alien -r -c libgtk2.0-dev_2.6.4-3_i386.deb, I got this: "sh: line 1: rpmbuild: command not found" (though there were two files named "/usr/share/man/man8/rpmbuild.8.bz2" and "/usr/lib/librpmbuild-4.2.so"). So I downloaded and tried to install rpm-build-4.2.2-15mdk.i586.rpm, and when I typed rpm -Uvh --test rpm-build-4.2.2-15mdk.i586.rpm I got this: error: Failed dependencies: autoconf is needed by rpm-build-4.2.2-15mdk automake is needed by rpm-build-4.2.2-15mdk spec-helper is needed by rpm-build-4.2.2-15mdk And I do have them all. And when I try to install it with the RPM: When I run rpm -Uvh --test bluefish-1.0.4-1.fc4.i386.rpm, I got this message:warning: bluefish-1.0.4-1.fc4.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID aedc1ccb error: Failed dependencies: desktop-file-utils is needed by bluefish-1.0.4-1.fc4 So I dowloaded and tried to install desktop-file-utils v0.10, but I got this error message when I ran ./configure:configure: error: popt 1.5 or newer is required to build libgnome. You can download the latest version from ftp://ftp.rpm.org/pub/rpm/dist/rpm-4.0.x/ Althought there are a few similar files: /usr/lib/libpopt.so.0 /usr/lib/rpm/rpmpopt-4.2.2 /usr/lib/rpmpopt /lib/libpopt.so.0.0.0 /lib/libpopt.so.0 Anyway, I downloaded and installed popt-1.8.2-15mdk.i586.rpm with no problem. Now I retry to run ./configure (in order to install desktop-file-utils), but I'm still getting the same error message. ** ** Thanks to google I could find this message which may help to solve the problem around popt, but I'm not sure if I should do that. BTW, Mandrake's install CDs include Bluefish v0.1... Isn't it possible to update it from the Mandrake Control Center (MCC)? I hope you guys can help me... Thanks in advanced! Regards
  3. I just selected it, but I got the "Out of range" message. I guess that I have to use a 60Hz frecuency when I use the 1024x768 resolution... Anyway, I just need it for some tasks (for example, to change the BlueFish's settings because the settings window is bigger than my screen). Thank you all for your help. Have a nice weekend. Best regards.
  4. Hello, daniewicz. Yes, there's only one: 1024x768 @ 70... Should I select it? Thanks.
  5. Solved! Thank you all for helping me solve this trouble. I had a "dependency hell" when I tried to install monitor-edid, so I decided to search for another solution because before installing v10.1 I was using v9.2 with a 1024x768 resolution (and I had no problem to set this resolution). This is what I did to solve it: 1.- I ran XFdrake (as root). 2.- Went to Monitor -> Generic -> double-click on "1024x768 @ 60". Before It was selected "Plug and Play". (Here's the problem: "Plug and Play" was working fine, so I though It was the right one, but It wasn't; the right one is "1024x768 @ 60" (within "Generic"). 3.- Resolution -> Select 1024x768 -> Accept. 4.- Accept. The famous message seemed to be issued from the monitor. You can see a snap by downloading the file I attached. for your attention too. Best regards.
  6. Thanks Aomighty, but I'm still getting the "out of range" error message. This is what the xorg.conf file has for the 24-bit color deepth: Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection And I've tried to do it in 3 different ways for each 'Subsection "Display"': I got the error message when I set: Subsection "Display" Depth Z Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubsection =================================== Nothing happens when I set: Subsection "Display" Depth Z Virtual 800 600 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubsection =================================== I got the error message when I set: Subsection "Display" Depth Z Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection Where "Z" represents each deepth (8, 15, 16 and 24 in my computer). ... What could be happening? Cheers.
  7. Thanks, AussieJohn. I couldn't find it into the install CDROMs, so I downloaded it from the Internet (I selected the monitor-edid-1.5-1mdk.src.rpm file), then I installed it. But the problem is that when I try to change the display, the highest resolution is 800x600. What could be happening? Cheers.
  8. Aomighty, I did what you told me, but It doesn't seem to work. I tried it in 3 different ways: The first (I got the "out-of-range" error message): SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection The second (nothing happens): SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 800 600 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection The third (I got the "out-of-range" error message): SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 1024 768 EndSubSection Did I do anything wrong? Thanks in advance. Cheers.
  9. Hello. Thank you all for your responses. I didn't know that about the screen refresh rate, so I'll only use a 1024x768 resolution when I really need it. I spend a lot of time on the computer, thus that's something I must have into account. Now I'm going to try the 2 suggestions you gave me, and I'll tell you what happened. Cheers.
  10. Hi, Aomighty and thanks for your response. That resolution does work in Windows... I've tested it. According my monitor's specs, the scan frecuency is: 30K~56KHz for horizontal and 50~120Hz for vertical, so I think that the 'Section "Monitor"' into my xorg.conf file is right. So, now do I have to modify the xorg.conf file in the Screen section, from: Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection to: Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 1024 768 EndSubsection ? I have not tested these configuration settings because I've read that if I put wrong data into this file, I could damage the monitor... I'm not sure if that's right, anyway, I'd rather to know what you think about it because It doesn't seem to be that difficult (or at least that's what I think). please... Thank you for reading this post. Regards.
  11. Hello. I have been trying to set my monitor's resolution to 1024x768, but I got the next error message: The current resolution is 800x600, and I'm using Mandrake 10.1, KDE 3.2 and an AOC monitor. I also found this on the monitor's box: 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz Max Resolution. I've seen on these forums that I have to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, but I don't know what's what I have to edit exactly. Anyway, a part of my xorg.conf file looks like: Section "Monitor" Identifier "monitor1" VendorName "Plug'n Play" HorizSync 30-56 VertRefresh 50-120 # Sony Vaio C1(X,XS,VE,VN)? # 1024x480 @ 85.6 Hz, 48 kHz hsync ModeLine "1024x480" 65.00 1024 1032 1176 1344 480 488 494 563 -hsync -vsync # Dell D800 and few Inspiron (16/10) 1280x800 ModeLine "1280x800" 147.89 1280 1376 1512 1744 800 801 804 848 # Dell D800 and few Inspiron (16/10) 1680x1050 ModeLine "1680x1050" 214.51 1680 1800 1984 2288 1050 1051 1054 1103 # Dell D800 and few Inspiron (16/10) 1920x1200 ModeLine "1920x1200" 230 1920 1936 2096 2528 1200 1201 1204 1250 +HSync +VSync # TV fullscreen mode or DVD fullscreen output. # 768x576 @ 79 Hz, 50 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 50.00 768 832 846 1000 576 590 595 630 # 768x576 @ 100 Hz, 61.6 kHz hsync ModeLine "768x576" 63.07 768 800 960 1024 576 578 590 616 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "screen1" Device "device1" Monitor "monitor1" DefaultColorDepth 24 Subsection "Display" Depth 8 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 15 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 16 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection Subsection "Display" Depth 24 Virtual 800 600 EndSubsection EndSection I hope you can help me...
