  1. First off, thank you for your replys. Hi and welcome to the forum. . Gag seems like an interesting option to grub or lilo but I want to focus on to these two. Having two HD both having it's own MBR to boot from a boot manager is not requiered. I also would like to note that this problems ONLY occures in M2006 and it has no problems in 10.1 Oficial :P PXE OPROM - that is defenetly not in my BIOS - what does it do ? :o I had FC4 and 10.1 OE before the 2006. The first ones worked fine. B) Don't take this as a personal offence but I do not want to start a falme war on windows/linux there are many out there as it is. Furthermore this is (in my opinon) a M2006 inconvenience not a Windows problem. :P The only conclusions that I could come up are that the Linux Yukon Driver needs to changed or in some way try to workaround the problem so that when the system powers down it doesen't take the netwrok with it. Have a good day.
  2. It's on board it's the Marvell in the signature and the Intel is on PCI. I pluged it in to see if I can connect properly to the network. It did'n work. Not same MAC, blah blah blah. I'll remove it later. Anyway the settings in the BIOS are all disabled WakeUp / Power Up by Ring Power On by PCI,RTC, Keyboard, Mouse OnBoard Giga LAN Boot ROM
  3. Shwt Down > wait 10 sec > On > boot into linux > logon as user xxxx > do a little surfing > shut down linux > wait 10 sec > boot XP > same problem > restart XP > boot linux wait for eth0 to enable [OK] hard reset I don't know how this happens but after a normal shutdown or normal reboot of the linux OS the on board network stops responding. No life signs. And yes the driver needs to communicate with the HW but this is like when the HW is turned off. How can you stop any activity on an on-board NIC ????? Welcome to "The Outer Limits" Edit: When shutdown from the M2006 OS the NIC is off and it remains the same until a start of eth0 in linux. But. If I turn off the power completly by unplugging the power cable form the main source then I can boot back to XP and have the net up.
  4. Yeah that's what I thought untill it happend. The way the system is set up is like this: I will try to remake the problem to see if it was just a glitch. Edit: It's not a glitch. Restar Win XP> Boot form 40Gig HD > load Mandriva > login as user xxxx > after logging in restart computer > booting WinXP > NETWORK CABLE IS UNPLUGGED > shut down > boot to linux > waiting for eth0 to enable > after the logon screen appears I do hard reset. Network in Windows is up again. Suggestions ???
  5. After I got my hands on the Mandriva 2006 I installed it right away so I can have a byte on the new features. Apperently I choked and the reason was that after doing a boot into Windows I noticed that in my systray was a message saying network cable is unplugged. I took a look at the back to see if the LED's are on. No they're off. And the cable is plugged in. Went back to M2006 and guess what. The backlight was on and the netwrok was running. Unbelievable. Format hdb1 and sda1 reinstall XP, NO NETOWRK Then after 4 hours it came to me Reinstall Mandriva, see if the LED's are on and net is up and then do a hard reset. Guess what. It worked. Now my question to you are: How can this happen ? Is it possible that M2006 can tamper with the hardware in such a way that a reinstall of XP is useless ?
  6. Every thing went smooth I continued the HW-01 and no problem. But one last question for this topic. When i boot into Linux the normal way and go to init 3 the whole text is corrupt but when i got to linux nonfb everything is ok. Why?
  7. uname -a rpm -qa | grep kernel-source I need to have the same source as the one installed no ? Why am I having the 2.6 kernel and the 2.4 kernel source ? is that right ? :mdk:
  8. my bad. It's a Leadtek FX5200 (WinFast A340 TD) and the driver version witch I am trying to install is NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7676-pkg1.run I am still trying to install on a 10.1 .
  9. Ok I have a similoar proble except that when I try to install it it says: nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' creation time: Wed Aug 31 21:43:28 2005 I kind of got stuck in installing. Yes I used urpmi kernel-source
  10. Found it. In the end I got every option disabled and enabled to see what exactly went wrong. I got to the section about USB stuff The guilty party is in my case at least: Legacy USB Support witch must be Disabled I am pretty sure that it was Enabled or on Auto Maybe it will work for Fink. Hope so. Till next time (problem).
  11. Well since I have the same problem. I'm having trouble installing Mandriva PowerPack 10.1 DVD. Bios is set up ok, it asks me what to do (press F1 or hit Enter). After pressing Enter I get a blank screen, no HDD activity, nothing. Reset. Now F1 and then text command, system locks and last commands were I am setting it up with the following config: ASUS A7V880 (VIA KT880) Latest BIOS AMD Sempron 2600+ Leadtek Win Fast A340TD 512 RAM SATA1: Seagate 80GB Secondary Master WD 40GB Primary Slave DVD-RW Sec. Slave CD-RW I want to setup the system on the 40 GB one with a 512 MB Swap, 250 for /boot and ~ 7 .2 GB for root I posted also on LinuxQuestions.org but it seems no clue as to what can get wrong. The DVD is good I did a normal install on Virtual PC. Other distro's worked well (FC4, Mepis live CD, Knoppix live cd and Mandriva 2005 LE) There are no PCI's now. I'll try the linux noapic nolapic ide=nodma maybe they might help. Cheers. PS. Nice forum Edit: nope same prob.
