  1. hello. In my Mandrake 10.1 Community Release when it is booting it always stops after mounting the USB filesystem here is a piece of what it displays: ... and here it displays nothing and never does anything... I CTRL+C and it steps forward but doesnt go anywhere... what can I do??
  2. hello! Im using Mandrake 10.1 Community release. I have a cdwriter (Benq 48x16x48) which I know its mounted as cdrom and I have a DVDReWriter (LiteOn) which I know should be mounted as cdrom2. Why this name and not DVDrom? i dont know.. in my desktop I have 2 icons (for the cdrom and the cdrom2), when I right-click the cdrom and choose mount it works, and I can see the files and work with it. When I right-click the cdrom2 and choose mount it doesnt work, and displays the following error message: sure thing the disc is properly inserted and that it is a non-blank disc. as for the fs type I dont know what it is or how to fix it... Help please!! I want to see my dvd movies here... By the way, I installed the MPlayer and is working fine --> I can play files... thanks :D
  3. nope...it didnt...I think I will just stop trying to compile it, I feel it is "uncompilable" and right now I am very angry....
  4. well...it did not compile...I think I should now install the kdevelope-3.1.2-10mdk package which is 493 MGs...but downloading it...ouch! well I will install libkdevelop3-3.1.2-10mdk.i586.rpm first and see if it helps...
  5. I met a guy some time ago that was just giving away free copies of VMware for windows, the installer was about 20MGs. do you think it was a pirated version or could it had been a special promotional release?? I ask this because at first I saw it as something not too odd, is a small file...hadnt ever heard of VMware before....but now I see that every release is charged, you might download but you have to pay so I have a little confusion here and I would like to use VMWare on my mandy distro. cheers
  6. Very interesting....Im not sure what is the urpmi, my guess is that it is the program called by the MCC when I check to install packages but I have not seen a configuration section there as to specify in what order to search for the rpms. Well it has finished downloading and isntalling a message appeared saying that some configuration files were created as ".rpmnew" or ".rpmsave" so I just clicked ok Next I tried to (again) ./configure the knights and guess what? yeap! another error... now it says there that I chose a prefix but all I did was Im starting to get the feel of it I think, I checked in the MCC for installing "KDE" related packages (even when I using KDE right now) but there are too many packages to be installed and I am preety sure I wont need to install them all; what package is the one that I am suposed to install?? also if you could give me instructions as for how to change the order in which the urpmi searches for the packages it would be great!. Thanks a lot guys! I feel I have been putting my mandy together for the last week or so, 10 days ago I had no compiler for C++, it was not until a few days that I was able to finally install properly gcc...and now I am still installing packages! hehehe :D
  7. im on it! :D While it is downloading I have a question: Why is it that now it is downloading everything that is to be installed? can I turn it back to retrieving the packages from the CDs? The reason of my questino is that downloading packages at the speed my internet connectino goes...is preety slow (15kb/s) and for instance now it is downloading about 119MGs...it will take some time.
  8. well I checked in the Mandrake Control Center for the xorg-devel and it appeared as NOT installed so I installed the following packages with their dependencies: 1.Name: libxorg-x11-devel Version: 6.8.2-7mdk 2.Name: libxorg-x11-static-devel Version: 6.8.2-7mdk Name: xorg-x11-server 3.Version: 6.8.2-7mdk After I clicked Install a message appeared: I clicked Yes and it started to download, I was waiting for a message saying to insert Disc number <any> and install from the CDs...anyways after it finished downloading and installing I tried the export PATH...after I tried the ./configure and here is the output: If I understood correctly the current installed version of Qt (whatever that is) is too new and couldnt find the headers and libraries right? but now how can I fix this??
  9. hello! Well I recently got my gcc working and I guess it is ok now: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=25281 now I am trying to compile Knights Chess: http://knights.sourceforge.net/news_archive.php so I downloaded and decompress the source code for the K desktop. in konsole I: #./configure even as su and it was going well but in the end it says: and exists the configuration... how can I fix this? 10. very interesting...i will consider trying to upgrade every package, I know it will take ages...but perhaps it is worth it, when I start getting error messages due to old-version files I will perhaps try to upgrade everything, as for now it is working fine so I yet don't see the need. For answering alexpank's question...Im not sure! lol! well I downloaded the source and tried to install, everything looked ok after installing but I still wasnt able to compile c++ source files....so I guess not everything was ok, after I started following rolf's and bvc's suggestions I guess we installed the rpm, but I am sure it was not in any of my mandrake 10.1 Community cds, why am I so sure?? -> well I installed the whole package of development! :) Again fellas thank you very much. btw the code I was trying to compile was a simple "hello world" but It was set for compiling under MSVC++6 so it had things like using namespace std; which does not exist in linux (now I know :P).
  11. and finally, after it downloaded everything and (I guess) installed it all: and now I test... and it works!!! :D:D:D thanks!!! Thank you all so much!!! my program did not compile but at least I can see that the lines from the compiler are there, meaning that if I have a compile that screams at me at least I ahve a cmopiler installed!!! :D:D:D:D COOOOL!!!!! thank you so much!!!! :D:D:D
  12. the last part wouldnt copy I guess its because it is in constant renewal, but it says the address from where it is downloading, the percentage.....Im afraid its gonna download/install 80Mgs, meaning i'll be here another while hehehe
  13. well here it is: And now something interesting happened, I went through this thread and started repeating the checking process. when I did urpmi gcc-c++ it asked me if I wanted to satisfy the 7 dependencies...so I said YEAH!!! and now it is downloading...brb
  14. well I went to Easy Urpmi and followed the steps, now it is downloading something that will take about half an hour....Im not sure what it is downloading but when it is done I will let you know :P
  15. hmmmm.....curious...when I downloaded the Community Release it was only 3 CDs.... perhaps the gcc is already to install from the PowerPack Download...I will try to download the PowerPack, it is free right? ;-) now that I think of it.... 1 cd = 600 Megs (about) 5 CDs = 3gbs... 3 GBs / 15kb/s...its gonna be a while...:S
