Hello folks,

After installing Mandriva Linux 2008.1 Spring on my Asus A6VA laptop, my sound card was correctly detected.
But in Amarok, i hadn't any sound while playing my mp3s...
What's the hell ?
I unplugged my Creative speakers and , miracle, i hear the sound from the laptop speakers !! Not a good solution.
How to make my speakers detected?

I search and i found the answer on ..... the Ubuntu Wiki !!!
My sound chipset is a very common Realtel ACL880 (HDA Intel).
But there was many configurations of this chipset, depending on the laptop brand.
The goal is then to find the good configuration.

The solution is to edit the file /etc/modprobe.conf.
Find the line :
options snd-ac97-codec power_save=1

and replace it with :
options snd-hda-intel model=z71v position_fix=1

Reboot.
And at startup, enjoy the loading music with your speakers !!!

That's it.
I hope this would help some Mandriva users.

There are a few "model=..." arguments that can be used, as auto recognizing the actual codec is rather difficult to achieve. But the rest are common practice since the azalia chips became the plate du jour at mainstream laptops.
