Palm contacts and LDAP

OK - this is more of a request for a project rather than one I'm going to start. I want to use thunderbird as my email client, but I also want to use my palm contacts for email. I use Jpilot to sync my clie.

Before anyone mentions it - I did try the thunderbird plugin and didn't get on with it, for several reasons.

So, I figured "Wouldn't it be cool if you could sync palm data with an ldap server and then get TB to use that for the contacts?"

Having searched the internet, I find lots of people talking about this, but no-one describing how to actually do it.

So - does anyone want to pick this up as a project? I would be willing to help out with testing, docs etc...

Shouldn't be too hard...
