menendez
Hello, I just upgraded to Mandriva 2011. I have a PC with a NetGear Wireless PCI card and had no trouble using this card with 2010. When I attempt to add a wireless interface by using a windows driver with ndiswrapper my computer freezes. I do get a pop-up window stating searching for required software and drivers before the PC freezes. Then I have to restart the PC to recover. I check what software is installed. I have the Ndiswrapper binary loader utility. I do not have a ndiswrapper-kernel. If I select ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop-latest I get the following error: Sorry, the following package cannot be selected: - ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop-latest-1.56-1.20101017.3mdv2011.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied ndiswrapper-kernel-2.6.36-desktop-0.rc8.1.1mnb[== 1.56-3mdv2011.0]) Please Advise. Thank You.
ianw1974
Ensure you've set up the repos correctly and that they are up-to-date. Use easyurpmi, or alternatively in MCC I'm sure you can add everything you need. Then try again to install the ndiswrapper kernel. http://easyurpmi.zarb.org
menendez
I had used easyurpmi to add the media. So I thought may be of I remove all media and add it again that might help. But this looks like it was a mistake. Removal was successful but I did get this error when adding the media. Unable to add medium, errors reported: ...retrieving failed: aria2 failed: exited with 2 problem reading synthesis file of medium "Non-free Testing (Official2011.0-19)" Although it does look like the media was added AND I still get this error: Sorry, the following package cannot be selected: - ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop586-latest-1.56-1.20101017.3mdv2011.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied ndiswrapper-kernel-2.6.36-desktop586-0.rc8.1.1mnb[== 1.56-3mdv2011.0]) OR Sorry, the following package cannot be selected: - ndiswrapper-kernel-desktop-latest-1.56-1.20101017.3mdv2011.0.i586 (due to unsatisfied ndiswrapper-kernel-2.6.36-desktop-0.rc8.1.1mnb[== 1.56-3mdv2011.0])

coverup
It looks like you are trying to install the version of ndiswrapper that does not match your kernel. Open console, and type uname -r to find the kernel version. Then install the version of the ndiswrapper that exactly matches the kernel version. If you have not updated your system and run the kernel that was on the DVD, then you should be able to find the matching version in the main repository, or on the DVD. How do I know get the version of ndiswrapper that correctly matches?
menendez
Problem solved by installing dkms-ndiswrapper so it builds modules with every different kernel Thanks for all the advice.
